Matthew Perry details botched attempt to lose his virginity to Tricia Fisher

Matthew Perry has detailed his failed attempt to lose his virginity to ex-girlfriend Tricia Fisher and how alcoholism affected his sex life in another excerpt from his new memoir.

The 53-year-old actor, who has spilled candid memories on Friends, Lovers and The Big Terrible Thing, revealed he suffered from impotence-induced anxiety after alcohol left him unable to perform when he first tried to have sex as teenager in his native Canada.

In a passage obtained by the New York Postthe star said he was “gentle and sad” after attempting to have sex with Tricia, now 53, whom he began dating in the 1980s at the age of 18.

The star shared how before leaving Ottawa for LA at age 15, he tried to have sex, drank ‘six beers’ for courage but couldn’t perform, writing: ‘By that time I’d been drinking for a few years. . I failed to make the correlation between the drink and my genitals.”

Perry said he spent years “walking the planet thinking that sex was for other people” and hiding his “big ugly secret” of impotence.

He began dating Tricia, Carrie Fisher’s half-sister and Eddie Fisher’s daughter, and described the couple’s valiant attempts to have sex — all in vain.

He wrote: ‘Nothing worked; nothing. Shocked again, I left Tricia Fisher’s loving arms and laid my slender, naked body on a chair in the apartment.

“I sat there, soft and sad, my two hands clasped like a nun over my lap during Vespers, doing my best to hide my shame and maybe a tear or two.”

He revealed that Tricia helped him overcome his problem by writing, “She walked up to me, took my hand, led me back to bed, laid me down, and sure enough… pure glory, for two whole minutes!

That night, through the help of a wonderful universe and the help of a beautiful young woman who deserved better, I finally lost my virginity first and lost it altogether, and impotence has not been part of my vocabulary ever since, just as she promised wouldn’t be. Everything about me – at least physically – works fine.’

The pair went on an on-off date for several years before Perry dumped Tricia due to his “old fears resurfacing.”

Perry has spoken openly about his battle with alcohol and pill addiction that nearly cost him his life.

At its worst, his addiction caused him to drink a quarter bottle of vodka a day and take 55 Vicodin, methadone, and Xanax.

Perry has been kissing and talking all over the place in his new memoir, with the star also revealing that he had a “long make-out session” with Valerie Bertinelli when her husband Eddie Van Halen passed out.

Bertinelli and Perry worked together on the Sydney TV show, which didn’t air until 1990.

Valerie’s marriage to Van Halen lasted from 1981 to 2007.

Perry writes in his memoir that his stint as Valerie’s brother in Sydney became intense as he “fell madly in love with Valerie Bertinelli, who was clearly in a difficult marriage.”

He adds: ‘My crush was crushing; Not only was she way out of my league, but she was married to one of the most famous rock stars in the world, Eddie Van Halen.”

Perry describes how intense his crush on the actress was, which prompted him to plan a future together.

“It’s important to point out that my feelings for Valerie were real. I was totally captivated – I mean, I was obsessed with her and had elaborate fantasies about her leaving Eddie Van Halen and spending the rest of her days with me,” he writes.

It eventually escalated when he was invited to Bertinelli and Van Halen’s home, where he “just hung out and stared at Valerie, trying to make her laugh.”

“When you made her laugh, you felt ten feet tall,” he gushes.

But “Eddie had been enjoying the fruits of the vine a little too hard, one more time, and in the end he just passed out, not ten feet from us,” says Perry, adding, “This was my chance!

“If you think I didn’t stand a chance in hell, you’re wrong, dear reader – Valerie and I had a long, elaborate make-out session. It happened—maybe she felt the same as me.’

He claims that Bertinelli even seemed to reciprocate his affection.

“I told her I’d thought long and hard about doing that, and she said it right back,” Perry says.

But when he confessed the night with Bertinelli to fellow player Craig Bierko, Bierko was cautious rather than optimistic and told him to watch out for himself.

As for Bertinelli, she said nothing about what had happened and acted – as she should have been – as if this was a normal day.

“I quickly got the hint and played the part I was supposed to play, but inside I was devastated,” Perry says.

Bertinelli’s professionalism is said to have led to sleepless, tearful nights for the future Friends star, and he saw Sydney’s failure as an escape from the obsession, as he “didn’t need to see Valerie anymore.”

The actor offers a Freudian explanation for his attraction to Bertinelli and other women who could not love him.

“All my life I’ve been attracted to unavailable women. It doesn’t take a psychology degree to figure out that this had anything to do with my relationship with my mother,” he writes.
