Laura Adlington has admitted she is struggling to cope with the recent pregnancy announcements after speaking vocally about her own fertility issues.

The 33-year-old Great British Bake Off star was recently told she would have to lose the 14th in order to carry a child and then decided she wouldn’t have one of her own.

On Tuesday, she shared on Instagram that news of other people’s pregnancies would “absolutely crush her” and fill her with “intense jealousy” and “self-loathing.”

The TV personality posted a photo of herself looking down wearing a blue floral dress and concluded that she will always grieve for the baby I don’t have.

She wrote in full: ‘I’m in a bit of a weird headroom right now to be honest. It feels like the whole world is pregnant, or having babies, or putting their kids in pumpkins.

“And while I usually handle it well, I’m finding it a bit tricky now.

“Don’t get me wrong, it’s a lot easier than it used to be. Pregnancy announcements used to tear me apart.

“I remember feeling such intense jealousy . . . to the point that I felt like I had been punched in the stomach.

Then, shortly after, came the uncontrollable tears, followed by the self-loathing of feeling like a horrible person because you wondered, ‘Why not me?’ and ‘When is it my turn?’

“They say time is a healer, and to some extent it is.

“Now, with the influx of recent pregnancy announcements and the birth of new babies, a familiar grief comes in place of a debilitating one.

“I’m very lucky in many ways and I’ve come to live a fairly completely child-free life. But I’m only human.

‘And while I enjoy sleeping in and the (usually) tidy house, I sometimes mourn the baby I don’t have. And if I’m being very honest, I think I always will.’

Laura recently revealed that she had been told she would have to lose the 14th to conceive and has now decided that she will not have children.

The star tried to conceive with her husband Matt for three years before doctors said her only chance was to try IVF and that she would have to lose weight to qualify.

Laura also said she struggled with her mental health during this time and her inability to conceive was exacerbated by many of her friends welcoming babies.

The star, who appeared in the Channel 4 show’s 2020 series, shared how she’d always wanted to be a mother and thought ‘what’s the point?’ if she couldn’t have a child.

She said, ‘I never thought, ‘I want to kill myself,’ but I certainly had thoughts that I didn’t want to be here anymore. And I’ve called Samaritans a few times and that has helped me a lot.’

Laura said she was trying to lose weight after talking to her doctors and even considering bariatric surgery before deciding it wasn’t for her.

The star, who has struggled with her weight since she was eight, found it difficult to lose that much to get the IVF.

She said: ‘It was so much to lose – about 14th and I just struggled to do that. I wonder if that will always be on my mind, especially as I get older.’

Laura thanks her participation in Bake Off and reaching the final by helping her through this difficult period.

However, since leaving the show, Laura has been faced with cruel comments from internet trolls.

Bake Off judge Paul Hollywood previously defended her against the brutal hostage-taking, writing on Instagram: “I’ve heard some sad people are trolling Laura, it’s disgusting behavior.”

The baker believes that more should be done to ‘protect’ people online and that internet users can too easily contact people they do not know.

Laura said she prefers the time childfree over “childless” and believes there are a number of positives to not having children, including that her time and her money are hers.
