Two top bars add what’s been called Australia’s most luxurious and expensive cocktail to the menu for a limited time at an eye-watering price.

Mixologists from Sydney’s Dean and Nancy at 22 and Melbourne’s Sky Bar will make the Woodford Reserve Gold Fashioned for a week, just for those willing to pay a whopping $15,000.

The only cocktail more expensive than the Woodford Reserve Gold Fashioned in the world is the Ritz-Carlton Tokyo’s Diamonds Are Forever Martini, priced at $19,000 USD.

From November 5 to 14, diners at the luxury locations can order the extravagant aperitif to celebrate Old Fashion Week.

The Gold Fashioned takes a minimum of 48 hours to prepare and contain a blend of rare and some of the world’s finest ingredients.

It’s a blend of Woodford Reserve’s premium XO brandy that sells for $3,000, gold-infused Chateau d’Yquem, a premium dessert wine, as well as handcrafted saffron and vanilla bitters.

The luscious cocktail comes in a hand-cut French crystal Baccarat tumbler with a block of specially engraved ice.

Those who splash out on the $15,000 booze will also take home a deluxe cocktail kit to recreate a luscious drink at home.

It will contain a pair of Baccarat hand cut French crystal cups and a bottle of the Woodford Reserve Baccarat Edition.

Dean and Nancy from 22 leading bartender Stefano Filardi said they wanted to create a cocktail like Aussies have never seen before.

“After years of lockdowns and missing out, we find that our guests are eager to splurge, especially when it comes to an experience they can’t get anywhere else.

We know the price tag is high, but we think every dollar is worth the Woodford Gold Fashioned,” he said.

Stefano said there will be other ways for customers to celebrate the old-fashioned week without spending thousands.

“For anyone looking to indulge in a bit of luxury without the investment, we’ve got a list of cocktails and exciting things on offer during Old Fashioned Week that won’t cost an arm and a leg,” he added.

Recipe: How to make a classic Old Fashioned cocktail

Ingredients

  • 60 ml Straight Bourbon Whiskey
  • 15 ml Demerara Syrup
  • 3 dashes Woodford Reserve® Aromatic Bitters
  • 2 dashes Woodford Reserve® Orange Bitters

Method

  1. Add ingredients to the mixing glass.
  2. Add ice to the mixing glass and serving glass.
  3. Stir the ingredients for 30-40 sec. .
  4. Strain into a serving glass.
  5. Garnish with a lightly squeezed orange zest.
