Major update after train strike brought Sydney to a standstill – here’s what commuters need to know
Thousands of Sydneysiders are hoping for a smooth journey home on Thursday evening after rail workers were ordered to immediately halt industrial action.
The Fair Work Commission has ordered an interim injunction to halt all strike action until a hearing is held next week.
The strike ban came into effect on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
The NSW government previously filed a 424 application with the Fair Work Commission in an attempt to stop the industrial action.
The breakthrough comes after two days of travel chaos as part of the ongoing pay dispute at the railway union.
An estimated 40 percent – around 1,500 rail services – were canceled or significantly canceled on Wednesday.
Another 1,000 services were canceled on Thursday.
