The Earthshot Prize – established in 2019 by Prince William to find solutions to ‘some of the world’s biggest environmental problems’ – has just published its annual report which shows it’s going gangbusters.

The uninitiated could be forgiven for missing this, given that Earthshot’s total revenues for the year were only a relatively modest four percent increase, at £23.5 million.

But this ignores the fact that no less than £8.6 million of the £22.5 million raised the previous year was a one-off donation from The Royal Foundation, set up by William and Harry in 2009 to support their various charitable ambitions. to achieve.

This year there was no such donation for the Earthshot, which was spun off from the Royal Foundation in 2022 to be run as a completely separate charity. The underlying income from donations increased by no less than 68 percent.

The founders gave £14.4 million. But perhaps even more intriguing is the contribution of The American Friends of The Royal Foundation or The Prince and Princess of Wales.

It has more than doubled to £6.1 million, compared to £2.7 million last year.

To put that into perspective, Meghan and Harry have raised a total of £4.67 million from all sources for their Archewell Foundation.
