The View’s Joy Behar launches savage attack on Carrie Underwood’s performance at Donald Trump inauguration

The View co-stars Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg had a disagreement on Tuesday’s show after Behar trashed Carrie Underwood for agreeing to perform at Donald Trump’s inauguration.

Underwood, 41, has defended her decision to run for the new administration, saying she loves America and was “humbled to answer the call at a time when we all need to come together in the spirit of unity.”

Behar had none of Underwood’s patriotism, claiming she honored Trump after he was convicted in his hush money trial in New York.

“She says, ‘I love our country.’ How do you love your country and support and normalize someone who was a convicted felon and who, in my opinion, really wants to destroy the country? “I don’t understand how you say you love your country and at the same time normalize this convicted criminal,” she said.

Perhaps surprisingly, Behar faced opposition from the entire rest of the reliably liberal panel, including co-host Goldberg.

She even made a small reference to the controversy of MSNBC co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski trying to make peace with Trump.

‘People do what they do for whatever reason. It’s like Joe and Mika. They felt like this was what they had to do and I had to stand behind them, you know, and I stand behind her,” the actress said.

Alyssa Farah Griffin, a former Trump White House aide, also disagreed with Behar.

‘I wouldn’t be the person to say don’t do it, because I believe in freedom of speech and everything that comes with it. Personally I wouldn’t do it. No one asked me, but that’s another story,” she said.

Griffin and Liberal Sunny Hostin largely agreed they wouldn’t show up in person, but defended Underwood.

“I think art is art, and you know, you have the right to perform where you want to perform. I agree with you, I can’t sing a lick and I haven’t been asked, but if I were asked it would be a hard no,” Hostin said.

Underwood has said she is “honored” and “humbled” to sing at Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration in a statement addressing her upcoming controversial performance.

“I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event,” Underwood, 41, said in a statement obtained by USA today.

“I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and look to the future.”

As one fan put it, “Carrie is about to get the whole country talking. Iconic move or controversial queen?’

One person said: ‘Disgusting, thought she had morals. It was all a sham,” while another thanked her via X, formerly Twitter.

Underwood will perform the song with The Armed Forces Chorus and The United States Naval Academy Glee Club on January 20, after Trump is sworn in by the Chief Justice of the United States.

In 2019, Carrie spoke with The Guardianwhere she said she “stays far out of politics if possible, at least in public, because no one wins.”

She added: “It’s crazy. Everyone tries to summarize everything and put a bow on it, as if it were black and white. And that’s not how it is.’

The inauguration will take place on January 20, 2025 at 12 noon.
