Man dies trying to save two children caught in a rip at beach in Western Australia
A man has died after trying to rescue two children trapped in a rip in Bremer Bay in Western Australia.
A man in his 40s was pulled from the water Tuesday afternoon at Native Dog Beach, about 6 miles south of Bremer Bay.
The incident took place around 2.10pm after two children were reportedly caught in a rip current.
The man was reportedly one of four adults who ran into the water while trying to rescue the children.
“One of the people who entered the water – a man in his 40s – was unresponsive,” a WA Police spokesperson said.
“He was carried to shore by others and the public began to administer first aid.”
The man was taken to Bremer Bay Nursing Post but was pronounced dead.
The children and the three other adults all managed to get back to shore safely.

Just 30 minutes before the Bremer Bay incident, a teenage boy also drowned at a public lake in Perth’s east.
WA Police confirmed a 17-year-old had died at Lake Leschenaultia in Chidlow on Tuesday afternoon.
Swimmers at the lake described hearing the boy screaming for help and then struggling to find him underwater.
Lake Leschenaultia is a popular swimming spot for families.
