What a trout pout! Fish with gigantic ‘filler lips’ baffle fishermen
A strange-looking fish caught in Thailand with giant Beverly Hills-style ‘filler lips’ has left local fishermen baffled.
A group of anglers caught the tilapia fish with its swollen ‘Trout Pout’ in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand on January 9.
One of the fishermen said: ‘We were so confused because we had never seen this kind of fish before. We decided to let him back in the water.’
The fisherman said the creature reminded him of celebrities who spend a fortune on cosmetic work to pump up their lips.
He joked: ‘The fish got its treatment for free. He didn’t need a clinic like those American celebrities.’
Poor water quality, including elevated ammonia or nitrite levels, can stress fish, making them more susceptible to infections and physical abnormalities such as swelling of the lips.
