‘We’d love to make more’: Skeleton Crew creators want to make another season, but the Star Wars show’s future doesn’t look promising
- Skeleton crewThe makers of the series hope that they can make a second season
- However, the signs don’t look good for the renewal of the Disney Plus show
- Skeleton crewHowever, the film’s characters could appear in another Star Wars project
Star Wars: Skeleton CrewThe series’ creators have revealed that they are “dreaming” of a second season, but it looks likely that the show will not return for another outing.
Speaking to Ny Breaking, Jon Watts and Christopher Ford said that in the event their series is renewed, they have come up with “several possibilities” about where the story could go.
When asked if they had discussed what the plot of a follow-up season might entail ahead of the season 1 finale of the Star Wars show, which airs tonight (January 14) in the US and tomorrow (January 15) in Britain and Australia airs, Watts told me: “Yes, we wanted to make sure this season had a satisfying beginning, middle and end. But if people want to see more Skeleton crewwe would like to make more.”
“We dream of it (a second season),” Ford added. “We have come up with several options, so never say never.”
Will Skeleton Crew be renewed for a second season on Disney Plus?
Despite Skeleton crew‘s positive critical reception – read my Star Wars: Skeleton Crew review to see what I thought – a second season seems unlikely.
Per recently released data from Nielsena renowned American audience measurement company, the Disney Plus series failed to crack Nielsen’s Top 10 streaming chart for the week of December 9 to 15, 2024 – that is, the seven-day period after the show debuted on one of the world’s best streaming services. Fellow TV originals included AP Bl And A man withinplus Jamie Foxx’s Netflix comedy special, delivered more streamed minutes than Skeleton crew did.
According to Star Wars fansite The Jedi Temple Archives, Skeleton crew also failed to crack the top 10 most-watched TV shows that week for Luminate, another entertainment industry data company. In reality, Skeleton crewThe 384 million minutes watched is the lowest total ever for a Star Wars series premiere. Boba Fett’s Book held that record with a total of 389 million minutes after the premiere of one episode in December 2021. Even The acolytewhich wasn’t as successful as Disney and Lucasfilm had hoped, racking up 488 million streamed minutes in its first seven days on the platform.
However, there are comments to be made about these viewing figures. The Nielsen and Luminate data therefore only relate to American households Skeleton crew‘s global ‘million streamed minutes’ revenue will be higher than what has been reported. It is also possible that, like Andor‘s first season, positive word of mouth has helped episodes 3 through 7 perform better. We won’t know if that’s the case, though, until Nielsen and Luminate release the ratings for those chapters in the coming weeks.
If Disney decides not to greenlight a second season, Skeleton crewThe season 1 finale may not be the end of the characters’ adventures in Lucasfilm’s iconic galaxy far, far away. In fact, with one of the many new Star Wars films bringing together characters from shows and more The Mandalorian And Star Wars: Ahsokafor a team film, there’s a good chance that will happen Skeleton crew‘s young stars could be part of the proceedings. That, Watts and Ford said, is something they would like to explore.
“It’s exciting to think about,” Watts said. “We have mainly focused on telling this story, but there is always a chance that they (the children) can meet surprising people in the future.”
“The exciting thing about these characters is that the kids are actually child actors,” Ford added, “and they’re growing up. So if they appeared in something else, we would tell the story of how they grew up and found their own path. place in the Milky Way.”
So don’t be surprised if Wim and company appear in Lucasfilm chief creative officer Dave Filoni’s Avengers-style Star Wars movie. And let’s hope they also appear in a second season of what is, in my opinion, one of the best Disney Plus shows in a while.
