The Pretty Baby star also added that it’s important for women to stand up for themselves and share their experiences together.
For example, Shields explained that after she recently suffered a grand mal seizure, two male doctors asked her if she had restricted her diet.
“You wouldn’t say that to a man,” she said.
“It’s just time to investigate this without shouting, without getting angry.”
The Mother of the Bride actress’ response comes just days after she made headlines for a shocking story she told in her new book.
The star revealed that a doctor performed a procedure without her consent while she was undergoing labia surgery.
The mother of two recalled experiencing major discomfort due to the length of her labia, such as chafing and bleeding, which led her to undergo labia reduction surgery.
“Of course it’s not covered by insurance because it’s considered cosmetic, which is very interesting,” she wrote.

“Last time I checked, I didn’t want to be a porn star,” the celebrity joked in the book.
Unfortunately, when she visited her surgeon in Beverly Hills for a post-op check-up, he “proudly” told the model that he had thrown in “a little twofer”: vaginal rejuvenation.
However, she had not requested or agreed to the procedure.
The Endless Love actress was concerned that the story was “too graphic or simply TMI,” but wanted to make her experience known to possibly help other women.
“If we want to change the way we approach and talk about women’s health, we need to raise the uncomfortable but very real issues,” she explained.
“Shame is no longer an option,” she said.
