Channel Nine star Tony Jones received a hilarious serve from his cohosts while covering the Australian Open from Melbourne Park.
The veteran sports reporter, 63, has worked at Nine News Melbourne since the mid-1980s, covering AFL, cricket and the Olympics, occasionally making headlines for the wrong reasons.
The expert commentator was hosting The Morning Serve on Monday along with Australian tennis greats Dylan Alcott, Todd Woodbridge and Alicia Molik when he took exception to the loudness of his co-hosts.
“Why is everyone yelling at me?” he asked.
Woodbridge hit back with a cruel response.
“Maybe your hearing aid is set a little too high,” he joked.

Jones laughed at Todd Woodbridge’s cheeky joke Monday morning
Jones saw the funny side, and so did the rest of the panel, with Alcott patting Woodbridge on the back for the comment.
At the 2023 event, Jones roasted Woodbridge for wearing a bright pink shirt.
“All I’m trying to do is improve Tony’s mood and brighten the day,” Woodbridge explained.
“He’s coming in tomorrow morning, so low, so low – and I’m going to lift him up.”
At last year’s Olympics, Australian golden girl Nina Kennedy hit Jones with a hilarious comment that would have surely infuriated him.
After telling him she felt “very calm” during her tense battle for the top spot on the podium with American Katie Moon, she ended the interview with a big smile and concluded with “Thanks, Chompers.”
Jones is known as ‘Chompers’ because of his distinctive teeth, which look perfect after having some work done more than 10 years ago.
The Melbourne-based Sunday Footy Show host is known in AFL circles for hating the nickname, with one incident proving he is not a fan.
Jones faced backlash on social media in 2019 for his conversation with Naomi Osaka
Footy caller James Brayshaw said the name first surfaced in the Teddy Whitten Legends AFL game in 2009, when footy great and fellow commentator Garry Lyon noticed how white Jones’ teeth suddenly were.
Jones was criticized on social media in 2019 for his “patronizing” conversation with Naomi Osaka after she defeated Petra Kvitova in the Australian Open final.
The interview got off to an awkward start when Jones joked that he was ‘not sure how you lasted all this way’ after Naomi lifted the Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup to the Channel Nine set.
When Naomi was seemingly surprised by the comment and smiled, Tony commented, “There’s the smile.”
While some fans found that comment condescending, others took issue with the way he brought up her heritage.
“Your grandparents were back in Japan and you left Japan when you were three and you still consider yourself a Japanese player,” he said.
“It took a while for your grandparents to get you and your sisters to want to play tennis and they finally joined.”
