- YELLOW: EDUCATION BUS, GUIDE, SCHOOL, TRAIN
- GREEN: CACHE BENCH, SWIMMING POOL, SPARE, SHOP
- BLUE: DRIVING INSTRUCTORS GUIDELINES BRAKE, PARKING, SIGNAL, TURN
- PURPLE: WORM BOOK, EARTH, GLOW, INCH
- My rating: Simple

In the list of GUIDELINES FOR DRIVING INSTRUCTORS, I heard the most during my BRAKE lessons. I was so bad at driving that my first instructor refused to take me out after my second lesson – I hit a police car in stationary traffic. The police officers found it hilarious, the instructor less so.
When I finally had to do my first test, I failed after 10 seconds, having managed to not SIGNAL and then make a turn in the wrong direction, straight into oncoming vehicles.
I should add that during this time I also drove my father’s car into a rock and then into a tree.
Luckily, after a ten year hiatus, it all clicked and I sailed through my second test. I even thought about becoming a driving instructor myself, but then I realized I had to teach people like I was 17.
Anyway, a nice Connections today. Certainly less stressful than a driving lesson.

What is NYT Connections?
NYT Connections is one of the New York Times’ increasingly popular word games. It challenges you to find groups of four items that have something in common, and each group has a different level of difficulty: green is easy, yellow is slightly harder, blue is often quite hard, and purple is usually very hard.
On the plus side, you technically don’t have to solve the last question because you can answer it by a process of elimination. Plus, you can make up to four mistakes, which gives you some breathing room.
It’s a bit more complicated than something like Wordle, though, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to trip you up with tricks. For example, beware of homophones and other word games that can obscure the answers.
It is playable for free via the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile.
