Netflix show Unsolved Murders hands 90 tips to law enforcement on 2018 Ohio murder case

A murder case on the hit Netflix show Unsolved Mysteries has sparked an influx of tips from viewers, 90 of which have been turned over to law enforcement, the show’s producer said.

The latest cold case to spark public interest in the show’s most recent series involves David Carter, 39, who was found murdered and dismembered on Ohio’s I-75 in 2018.

Tips are now pouring in on the whereabouts of his suspected killer – girlfriend of six-month-old Tammy Williams, 43, who has been on the run since she was released by police after an initial arrest in 2018, days after Carter’s death.

Williams is wanted by US Marshals for “mutilation, mutilation of a corpse, tampering with evidence and a felony firearm.” US Marshal Supervisory Deputy Jimmy Allen recently confirmed to TMZ that “quite a lot of tips” have come in saying Williams is still in the US.

The TV series Unsolved Mysteries, which started in the 1980s, was rebooted by Netflix in 2020 and has the same name and format as the original.

Each episode of the show explores an unsolved case. The series has been known to breathe new life into murder investigations that have come to a dead end.

Last year, Alonzo Brooks’ death was considered a homicide by federal forensic investigators after the case appeared on Netflix’s Unsolved Mysteries show and his body was exhumed.

David Carter was last seen at his son's soccer game on September 28, 2018. In the weeks since, various body parts were found in bags along I-75 in Ohio.

Unsolved Mysteries producer Terry Dunn Meurer, who has been with the show since its very first iteration, told TMZ that they have gotten a lot of tips since the release of the recent episodes. More than 90 of them related to Williams, the outlet reported.

Originally from Michigan, David Carter was 39 years old when he was last seen alive at his son’s soccer game with Williams on September 28, 2018.

Two days later, his son, DJ, and mother, Samia Conner, received text messages from him canceling a visit because he was “ill.”

DJ decided to check in with his father and claims that when he arrived at his house, he saw Williams taking out the trash. Seeing him, she rushed back inside and locked the door, DJ says.

“She ran to the apartment door, as if she were running,” DJ told Unsolved Mysteries. “And when I got to my father’s house, the door was locked. You would have thought she wouldn’t have left it locked since she saw me, but I had a key.’

He says that once he got in, Williams told him that his father was “out and about,” despite being ill.

On September 30, Carter failed to show up to work at the Magna Seating Plant – an Ohio plant that produces car seats.

On October 2, his sister Tasia Carter-Jackson went to his home to check on him and reportedly found the front door unlocked, as well as a blood-stained mattress that had been shot once.

Unbeknownst to Carter’s sister at the time, a day before, a transportation worker had found a “weird-looking sleeping bag” in the bushes along I-75 in Eagle Township, Ohio. Inside, the lower body and legs of a corpse with tattoos were similar to Carter’s.

Williams was working as a phlebotomist and travel agent at the time of Carter’s murder. According to US Marshal Allen, her experience as a travel agent may have been helpful once she went into hiding.

Carter and Williams had gone to the same high school and started dating six months before the incident after reconnecting at a party.

Williams was arrested shortly after the murder in October 2018, but police had insufficient evidence, so she was released shortly after. Then she disappeared.

Williams is 5’5 and weighed 190 pounds with “several notable tattoos,” according to the US Marshals.

An investigation revealed that Williams was seen on Oct. 16 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where she was caught on camera eating a meal at a restaurant.

Then she took a train to Chicago, Illinois and then to New York City. That’s the last she was seen.

The US Marshals are still looking for Williams and are offering $10,000 for information leading to her arrest. They say she is known to change her appearance on a regular basis.

‘We’re going to find you. We’ve been investigating this case for three years and we’ve had very little cooperation,” Deputy US Marshal Aaron Garcia said in 2021.

“People know where she is, they know where she is and they know how to get in touch with her. They haven’t come forward yet.’
