Urgent recall of popular ice cream product sold at Target and Wegmans stores

A California-based mochi ice cream company has issued an emergency nationwide recall after an undisclosed ingredient was discovered in its product.

My Mochi on Thursday recalled 1,350 cases of Peach Mango Sorbet after undeclared pasteurized cooked egg whites were found in the food product, putting people with allergies at risk.

There have been at least two reports of “minor” allergic reactions linked to the sorbet sold at stores including Target and Wegmans, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The company initiated the recall after someone realized that the ice cream packaging did not list protein among the ingredients.

After investigation, it was concluded that this error was due to a temporary glitch in My Mochi’s manufacturing process, the FDA statement said.

The batches involved in this recall have lot numbers 337-24 and 341-24. My Mochi and the FDA have urged customers who purchased the sorbet to return it to the store where they purchased it for a full refund.

According to the Mayo ClinicEggs are the most common allergy-causing foods among children.

After eating eggs, allergic children may experience symptoms ranging from mild to severe a few minutes to several hours later.
