Miley Cyrus shares heartache for LA fire victims six years after her own home burned down in Malibu blaze

Miley Cyrus revealed her soul aches for the victims of the catastrophic LA wildfires, six years after her own Malibu home was destroyed in the 2018 Woolsey fire.

The Flowers singer, 32, shared an emotional message on her Instagram Stories on Saturday, saying the devastation is “heartbreaking.”

The infernos — including the Pacific Palisades Fire and Eaton Fire — started earlier this week Tuesday amid strong Santa Ana winds. A number of residents and stars lost their homes this week, including Miles Teller, Mel Gibson and Paris Hilton.

Cyrus shared a photo of what was left of her burned-out property that she shared with ex-husband Liam Hemsworth at the time.

She then wrote: ‘This image hits me hard in the heart today. This is a photo taken from my porch in 2018 after we lost our home in the Woolsey fires.”

‘It’s a feeling you’ll never forget. As you walked up to the door you walked through every day, you looked forward to being greeted by those you love, as you always do, but instead you are met by a pile of ash and rubble.”

Miley added, “My soul aches for those experiencing this devastation firsthand and I cry for my city.”

‘It’s beyond heartbreaking. Los Angeles represents ‘living the dream,’ but today’s reality is devastation and devastation.”

Towards the end of her message, the performer shared links to organizations she “personally supports that are helping fight the fires and support survivors.”

“Time, resources and dedication from within and without our community will heal us, but for now it hurts deeply… Love always, Miley.”

Cyrus linked to the Malibu Foundation – which she ‘helped to launch’ six years earlier at the time of the Woolsey Fire.

According to its official website, the organization provides “comprehensive, needs-based assistance to victims of the January 2025 wildfires, including the Palisades, Eaton, Hurst and Sunset Fires.”

It also “prioritizes the most vulnerable populations, including low-income families, seniors, individuals with disabilities and uninsured households.”

The Palisades Fire alone — which started Tuesday morning — is estimated to have destroyed about 5,300 structures, including homes, churches and schools.

Miley added, “I’m grateful for everything I have left. Sending so much love and gratitude to the firefighters and LA County Sheriff’s Department!”

She also offered links to those who wanted to be “involved” in the efforts to help those affected by the bushfires, typing: “I love you more than ever, Miley.”

Hemsworth also uploaded an image of the burned house and wrote: “It’s been a heartbreaking few days.”

“This is what’s left of my house. Love. Many people in Malibu and surrounding areas in California have also lost their homes and my heart goes out to everyone affected by these fires.”

The actor reflected on the “community coming together” and shared that “the event will only make it stronger.”

Towards the end of the caption, Liam added, “I love you guys. I love you Malibu. Thank you to all the heroic firefighters in California. It will be a journey towards reconstruction. Stay strong everyone…’

Cyrus and Hemsworth had plans to get married on the Malibu property before it was destroyed by the fires. In December 2018, the couple married at her Nashville home.

Back in 2023 in a TikTok videoCyrus reflected on the Malibu home where she wrote her first album, titled Meet Miley Cyrus.

She said, “The Meet Miley Cyrus record was really where I started writing my own songs as a solo artist.”

“And so I worked with a producer in Malibu who lived in a house in Ramirez Canyon, which I never knew that fifteen years later I would be living in that house, which would eventually burn down.”

The singer then said: ‘That house had so much magic. In the end it really changed my life.’

Not long after her Malibu residence was destroyed, Miley revealed during an interview for On air with Ryan Seacrest that she had a premonition that her house would burn down.

She recalled working with producer Mark Ronson on the song Nothing Breaks Like a Heart.

“It’s actually really crazy because I wrote this song with Mark in May, before we actually lost our house in Malibu.”

“And one of the lyrics is, “This burning house / There’s nothing left / It’s smoking and we both know it.” It was like this strange premonition.”

Cyrus also recalled Liam’s Instagram post after losing the house, saying, “Liam posted on his social media these love letters that were physically left at our home.”

“We had these beautiful big letters that said ‘LOVE’ when you drove up to our house and they actually came through the fire… and that’s literally and physically the only thing left, so I thought that was really poetic. ‘

The star added, “You can always rebuild a physical structure, but that love that cannot be destroyed has always been there and has always stayed strong, so that gave me a lot of light in a dark time.”

She later sold her fire-damaged Malibu home for $800,000 less than her 2020 purchase price.

Aside from the Palisades and Eaton fires, other infernos have since started this week, such as the Kenneth Fire and Hurst Fire. On Saturday, firefighters worked to contain the Palisades fire near Brentwood.

1,680 National Guard troops have gone to Southern California to provide relief – the death toll now rises to 13.

Other stars who lost their homes to the LA fires include Mel Gibson, Seinfeld star Julia-Louis Dreyfus and Gilmore Girls alumnus Milo Ventimiglia.

However, other celebrity homes survived, with James Woods revealing on Friday that his house had not been burned after he thought it had been destroyed just days earlier.
