TV presenter Katie Piper reveals her decision to use a prosthetic eye

TV presenter Katie Piper has revealed she is trying out an ‘artificial eye’, more than 16 years after an acid attack left her partially blind and with life-changing burns.

The Loose Women panellist, 41, an advocate for people with burns and disfigurements, shared a video of her getting a prosthesis.

In an Instagram postshe wrote: “After battling with my eye health for many years, I have somewhat reached the end of the road and decided to try a prosthetic eye.

“This marks the beginning of a journey to an artificial eye, with an incredible medical team behind me.

“As always, I am incredibly grateful to everyone in the NHS and private healthcare for their talent and kindness.

“I will share my journey, I am hopeful and nervous to be able to tolerate it and would love to hear from you in the comments if you have been through this journey or have any advice.”

The former model suffered an acid attack in March 2008, organized by her ex-boyfriend.

After the attack, the former model gave up her right to anonymity and made a Channel 4 documentary called Katie: My Beautiful Face in 2009.

She founded the Katie Piper Foundation, which supports survivors of life-changing burns and scars, and received an honorary doctorate from the Royal College of Surgeons to mark her groundbreaking work with the foundation.

In 2021, Piper, host of Katie Piper’s Breakfast Show on ITV, was included in the Queen’s New Year’s Honor Roll for her services to charities and survivors of burns and other disfigurements.
