Radio host’s shock comments about Californians ‘getting what they deserve’
Radio host Adam Carolla called for responses in the wake of the Los Angeles fires when he said liberals in the affected area were “asking for it” by voting for Democrats.
Carolla, 60, blamed California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass for mismanaging the crisis. They said their elections show that locals are “getting some of what we deserve.”
“And I want to say to all the people in Malibu, very blue, Palisades, very blue, Santa Monica, very blue: you all like this,” he said during an appearance on The Megyn Kelly Show.
“You voted for these people. You are now thinking: how come the fire hydrants are not working? Where is the mayor? Why is she out of the country? What’s going on with the aqueduct?
“You voted for these people. This is what you voted for.”
Carolla’s comments divided opinion, with some pointing out that the scorched Pacific Palisades area voted heavily for Bass’s opponent Rick Caruso — who Carolla described as a “qualified, sound businessman” — in the 2022 mayoral election.
The radio host went on to slam DEI’s hiring practices in Los Angeles’ emergency services, recently highlighting LA’s first female fire chief’s stance on “focusing on diversity” among firefighters.
It comes amid growing calls for embattled Democratic leaders, including Newsom and Bass, to resign in the wake of the wildfire crisis as residents condemn them for an apparent lack of preparedness.
Radio host Adam Carolla invited backlash in the wake of the Los Angeles fires when he said in an appearance on The Megyn Kelly Show that liberals in the affected area were “asking for it” by voting Democrat.
The fires have burned more than 10,000 buildings and killed at least 11 people, with officials warning the death toll is ‘expected to rise’
Appearing opposite Kelly, Carolla denounced Newsom’s handling of the wildfires and said Californians should have voted him out of office when he faced a recall in 2021.
“Gavin Newsom was actually recalled, and he still won,” he said.
‘We had a choice between Rick Caruso as mayor, we ended up with Karen Bass. We get about what we deserve.”
Carolla continued, “Do you think it’s more important to have a woman of color than a qualified person? Do you think it’s more important for a lesbian to lead the fire department than a qualified person?
“Well, you asked for it. You got it. Now your house is on fire.”
The comments divided viewers, with some agreeing that Democratic leaders had mismanaged the crisis, while others condemned Carolla for blaming the victims of the fires.
“It doesn’t matter which party you come from, no one deserves what happened,” an X user responded.
“But maybe everyone can work together and discover what’s clearly not working and make the changes that are needed.”
Another argued: ‘He’s not wrong. It’s always wrong to point the finger at people who are suffering, but he’s certainly not wrong.
‘Bad decisions often lead to bad consequences. Gavin Newscum is the mother of all bad decisions.”
Carolla’s scathing rebuke of DEI in Los Angeles emergency services comes days after Kelly also got into the practice on her hit show.
The former Fox News host said high winds and drought-like conditions that fueled the fires are “predictable” for the area, and argued that not enough attention was paid to important preventative measures in favor of diversity in hiring staff.
“In recent years, LA’s fire chief has made not filling fire hydrants a top priority. but diversity,” she said angrily earlier this week.
She referenced an interview in which LA Fire Chief Kristin Crowley expressed her desire to increase the number of women and LGBTQ+ people in the fire service.
“Who cares if the fire chief is gay? “I’m sorry, but who gives a flying fig about who she likes to sleep with, can you fight the damn fires, ma’am, that’s the relevant question,” Kelly continued
‘We don’t care about your lady parts and we don’t care who you want to give access to. Can you put out fires? Can you make sure there is water in the hydrants?’
