Haley Joel Osment is known for starring in The Sixth Sense alongside Bruce Willis and Forrest Gump with Tom Hanks.

But despite his successful career as a child actor, Haley disappeared from Hollywood for 15 years, shortly after being charged with drunk driving and drug possession.

Haley, 36, is also the older brother of Hannah Montana alum Emily Osment, 32, who has had a stellar career in showbiz.

Rather than pursue a career in which he acted like his famous sister, Haley decided to step back from Hollywood after often finding it “aggressive, predatory and ruthless.”

Looking back on his career in 2023, Haley shared E! News that as a child his parents always told him: “If you ever don’t like it, you can stop it tomorrow.”

“And when I got to college age, I had to study theater and really think about whether I wanted to do this as my career in life,” he said.

After Haley received an Oscar nomination in 2000 at the age of 11, he was on his way to becoming a superstar.

In 2006, then 18-year-old Haley sent shock waves when he was charged with driving under the influence (DUI) and possession of marijuana following a car accident.

The star broke a rib and hurt his shoulder in the crash in Los Angeles, which caused his vehicle to flip onto its roof.

He pleaded no contest to one count of each misdemeanor DUI and misdemeanor drug possession and was sentenced to three years’ probation, 60 hours of alcohol rehabilitation and education program and a $1,500 fine.

Around the same time, while his younger sister Emily also landed her big role in Hannah Montana, he left Hollywood to go to school in New York City.

After a difficult few years, Haley returned to the spotlight and starred in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, Entourage, Tusk and Blink Twice.

Haley previously said he noticed a change in Hollywood after returning to the spotlight.

He noted that his hometown of Los Angeles has “mellowed out a little bit” regarding the paparazzi culture he previously witnessed as a teenager.

‘We are in a different era than before. It’s an interesting shift in dynamics,” he said of navigating social media as a public figure who also prioritized his privacy.

After finally creating an Instagram to counter the fake accounts claiming to be him, he admitted that it took him “a long time to figure out how to navigate social media” and credited content that was “liked to be posted online ‘.

“Right now, I feel comfortable with it,” Haley said. ‘In this very large media environment, this is the way to promote your projects and help people stay informed about what you are doing, within the balance of reasonable privacy. I resisted it for so long and now I’m like, “Hey, it’s fun to make some posts.”

Haley’s latest role is in Zoë Kravitz’s directorial debut, Blink Twice, in which he co-starred with Channing Tatum.

According to the logline, wild nights quickly turn into sunny days. However, when strange things start happening, Frida must discover the truth if she hopes to make it out alive.
