Major update in disappearance of Melbourne man, 43, who vanished a year ago after driving away in his distinctive gold car

The remains of a man missing for almost a year have been found on the outskirts of Melbourne, months after a trio were charged in connection with his murder.

Adrian Romeo, 43, disappeared on February 10, 2024, after telling his parents he was going to visit some co-workers in Greenvale, in the city’s north.

His phone and bank cards have not been used since and police have not yet found the gold 2004 Toyota Camry he was driving.

Romeo’s remains were discovered at a property in Wildwood, in Melbourne’s north, during massive searches over several months.

Robert Mantini was arrested in July and charged with Romeo’s murder in Greenvale, court records show.

Two others, a 60-year-old man from Greenvale and a 29-year-old Wallan man, were arrested in December and charged with accessory after the fact (murder).

Detectives previously carried out a number of searches at the Wildwood property between July and December in an attempt to find any trace of Romeo.

During searches on November 27 and December 10, a number of items were located and sent for forensic analysis.

Mr Romeo was reported missing to police four days after his disappearance.

Police had spoken to numerous friends and associates of Adrian, without any major breakthrough on his whereabouts.

A massive CCTV surveillance was also carried out, with police working on hours of footage to try to trace his last known steps.

Romeo left his home in a distinctive gold 2004 Toyota Camry sedan, which has not yet been located but could assist the police investigation.

Detectives previously released a photo of the car as part of their public appeal in the hope someone recognizes it.

“There is a possibility it may have been dumped, stolen or sold somewhere and we would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the gold Toyota Camry,” Detective Thomas said.

“It may be on the street somewhere, so I advise people to keep an eye out for it.”

The remains found this week have been confirmed to be those of Mr Romeo and his family have been informed.

The investigation continues.
