Aston Villa have made an improved £21 million bid for Borussia Dortmund striker Donyell Malen.
Negotiations between the two clubs continue after Villa’s opening offer of £15 million plus bonuses fell short of the £25 million the Bundesliga side wants to receive.
This week, Mail Sport revealed that Unai Emery’s side had reignited their interest in the 25-year-old.
The improved offer from the surprise Champions League package aims to bring Malen to the club in a bid to continue their quest to finish in the top four for a second consecutive season.
Malen can play across the front line, mainly on the right wing, and would give Villa extra pace, depth and quality for Emery in attacking positions.
The Dutch international has 18 months left on his contract at the Westfalenstadion and Dortmund could be willing to sell in January to prevent him leaving for free.

Meanwhile, Villa are also in talks with Paris St Germain, with the French giants interested in striker Jhon Duran, but he would not be sold cheaply by the Premier League team.
Duran has scored 12 goals in all competitions for Villa this season but has been largely limited to appearances from the bench, with Ollie Watkins often favored by Emery up front.
The 21-year-old could be tempted to leave English football behind and join PSG, who can offer regular Champions League football and silverware to the deadly finisher.
PSG’s frontline could have space available this winter if Randal Kolo Muani leaves the club amid a flood of interest from Premier League suitors.
Villa are interested in the Frenchman, who is also a loan target for Tottenham, Juventus and Manchester United.
