Channel Seven star breaks down live on-air over the deadly LA wildfires as his former neighbourhood Pacific Palisades is destroyed: ‘It’s hard not to get emotional’
Channel Seven newsreader Mike Amor broke down in tears live on Friday as he emotionally discussed the devastating bushfires in Los Angeles.
The veteran journalist, 57, was overcome with emotion as he discussed the extent of the devastation caused by the deadly fires in the Pacific Palisades area.
Amor, 58, lived in the upscale LA area for 18 years while serving as Seven’s bureau chief, and shared his dismay at the destruction of his former neighborhood.
“I am not ashamed to say that there have been many tears in the Amor household,” he admitted.
“My wife is from LA and for 10 of the 18 years we lived there, we called Pacific Palisades and Malibu home.
“It’s hard not to think emotionally about the pain they’re going through right now.”

The 57-year-old journalist, who lived in LA’s Pacific Palisades area for 18 years as the network’s bureau chief, became emotional as he reported the extent of the destruction in his old neighborhood.
Amor said he has been in touch with his friends from LA and found it difficult to stay positive after hearing what they were going through.
“We are hearing more stories from our friends who have lost their homes and from those fortunate enough to still find them there,” he continued.
‘It’s heavy stuff. We saw those heartbreaking photos, but they meant so much to us. It’s a beautiful place to live and they experience so much.’
Amor said he is especially concerned about one of his close friends, who is currently battling cancer and has now lost his home to the fires, which started on Tuesday.
‘I think of a friend of mine who is in his late seventies, has cancer and is fighting to live. Now he has nothing to return to,” he added emotionally.

‘The stairs in this image led up to their house. I can’t say much more. Fortunately, they were both away at the time and are physically safe.
‘ABecause this is emergency assistance, the funds will be used for whatever they need after this loss: food, accommodation, clothing, vehicles, whatever they need.”
As of Friday evening, the artist had managed to raise around $31,000 as part of his appeal.
Benjamin has starred in major films such as Alien: Covenant and Ford v. Ferrari.
