Boy, 4, rushed to hospital in critical condition after hit-and-run outside his home – as police hunt for the driver

A multi-state manhunt is underway after a four-year-old boy was hit by a car in regional NSW before the driver reportedly fled the scene.

The four-year-old boy was left in a critical condition after he was hit by a car outside his home on Dick Road in Lavington, a suburb of Albury, near the Victorian border, at 7am on Friday.

Paramedics rushed to the scene and treated the boy for head injuries before sending him to Albury Hospital in a critical condition.

He has since been taken from Albury to the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne for further treatment.

Police want to speak to the driver of a white Holden Commodore who was seen in the area around the time of the incident.

The car has black rims and was last seen traveling southbound on the Hume Highway.

A white ute (pictured) was seen in the area around the time the child was hit and police believe the driver could assist with their investigation

Albury is within miles of the Victorian border and police are unsure which state the driver may have fled to.

A major search operation has therefore been launched in both states as police attempt to locate the driver of the vehicle responsible.

Police have cordoned off a crime scene on Dick Road and are appealing for anyone with information about what happened.

Anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage from the area is urged to contact Crime Stoppers immediately.
