Notre Dame football team ravaged by flu ahead of CFP semifinal and Orange Bowl against Penn State

Ahead of the biggest game for the Notre Dame football program in more than a decade, the Fighting Irish roster was ravaged by the flu on Thursday night during their College Football Playoff semifinal against Penn State.

The outbreak is believed to be mainly among backups and special teams players, with no notable stars such as quarterback Riley Leonard or running back Jeremiyah Love mentioned as possibly ill.

Those in the Notre Dame locker room who have symptoms are thought to be “feeling bad,” per BlueandGold.com.

The Fighting Irish have made no comment on the situation, while DailyMail.com’s request for comment from the school was not immediately returned.

Notre Dame will play the Nittany Lions in the Orange Bowl with a spot in the national championship on the line, with both teams having already won two postseason games.

The Fighting Irish defeated Indiana and Georgia en route to the semifinals, while Penn State defeated SMU and Boise State.
