Sydney school is thrown into chaos after a student created pornographic images of female pupils using AI

A Sydney high school is embroiled in a deepfake pornography crisis, just weeks before the first term of the 2025 school year begins.

Artificial intelligence (AI) was allegedly used by a year 12 student to create pornographic images of female students, throwing the city’s south-west school into turmoil.

The teen allegedly used real photos, some of which were from school activities, and created fake social media profiles.

An email sent by the NSW Department of Education to shocked parents and students telling them what was being done about the alleged incident.

“The school has been made aware that a male Grade 12 student allegedly used artificial intelligence to create a profile similar to your daughters and others,” the email said.

‘Unfortunately, innocent photos from social media and school events were used.

“We would like to emphasize that your daughters have done nothing wrong, there are no inappropriate real photos using them.

“Please understand that your daughters did not post inappropriate messages, but were victims of this situation.”

The student’s name was included in the email, but media have been asked not to name him or the school involved to protect the names of alleged victims.

Daily Mail Australia understands that as the matter has been referred to police and because none of the students are currently in school, no decision has yet been made on what action will be taken against the alleged creator of the deepfake pornography.

Parents and students are urged not to contact the student and to report explicit content related to this case on social media platforms to police.

They have also learned that there is a document circulating that contains evidence that cannot be shared due to its X-rated nature.

The Department of Education has referred the matter to the eSafety Commissioner and to the police and is providing ‘continued support to all involved’.

“This matter has been reported to police and we are working closely to support their investigation,” a spokesperson said.

‘We will not tolerate such behavior and will take appropriate action.

“Our top priority is to ensure that our students feel safe and any decision regarding this student’s future involvement with the school will be based on that.”

Last August, the Senate passed a bill targeting the non-consensual creation and distribution of deepfake pornography, paving the way for harsh new criminal penalties for offenders.

The bill, which received bipartisan support in a committee review, could result in people convicted of creating the material receiving up to seven years in prison.

“Digitally created and modified sexually explicit material shared without consent is a harmful and deeply disturbing form of abuse,” Attorney General Mark Dreyfus said at the time.

The students will return to class on February 6.
