Philadelphia Eagles given huge boost as quarterback Jalen Hurts returns to practice ahead of NFL playoffs

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts returns to practice Wednesday for the first time since suffering a concussion in Week 16.

The big boost for the Eagles should clear the way for him to start this weekend in their NFC wild-card playoff game at home against the Green Bay Packers.

The Eagles had not said anything about Hurts’ health until Wednesday, as he suffered a concussion and left the Dec. 22 game early against Washington.

He missed the last two games — where backups Kenny Pickett and Tanner McKee led the Eagles to victories — and coach Nick Sirianni had said only that Hurts remained in the NFL concussion protocol.

However, Sirianni said Wednesday that Hurts would attend practice later in the day at Lincoln Financial Field.

He did not say if there were limits on how much Hurts could participate in the session.

Hurts was 20 of 34 for 278 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions and led the Eagles to a 34-29 victory over the Packers in the season opener in Brazil.

Hurts, who played late in the season with a broken finger on his non-throwing hand, threw for 2,903 yards with 18 touchdowns and five interceptions this season.

He threw just one interception after the NFC East champion Eagles returned from their Week 5 bye.

Packers were concerned about the health of their own quarterback, but coach Matt LaFleur said he didn’t expect any lingering injury problems for Jordan Love, who couldn’t finish the team’s Week 18 loss to the Chicago Bears because of an elbow injury.
