Horrifying moment a child dangles from the bottom of a ski lift before plunging 40 feet into trees – and somehow avoids serious injury

Video footage captured the horrific moment a child dangled from the bottom of a ski lift at a resort before falling 40 feet to the snow-covered slope below.

Holidaymakers spotted the boy dangling from a cable car chair at the Genting Resort Secret Garden in Zhangjiakou, Hebei.

Footage shows the young girl, dressed in a bright pink snowsuit, struggling to hold on to the lift before losing her grip on January 8.

She then plunged some forty feet through the air to the snow-covered pines below.

Witnesses and slope staff helped pick up the girl, who was taking ski lessons at the resort, before she was rushed to hospital.

Fortunately, she did not suffer any serious injuries from the fall, as local media reported that she was cushioned by the tree branches and soft snow.

A witness who filmed the incident said: ‘This is not the first time this has happened.

‘Parents and coaches must pay more attention to preventing this accident.

“The child is small and short and easily slips off the crossbeam under her feet.”

There seemed to be three other people in the gondola at the same time as her, but they didn’t notice her falling out of the machine.

Ski lifts are often equipped with safety bars, footrests or non-slip straps to prevent adults from falling out.

Although some designs include safety measures to keep children safe, young people riding in larger cabs without this feature are at risk of slipping.
