Tottenham emerge as contenders to sign Marcus Rashford on loan but face competition from European rivals to sign wantaway Man United star

Tottenham are among a number of European giants looking to loan Marcus Rashford from Manchester United.
Spurs want to strengthen their attacking options and save their season despite being the second top scorer in the Premier League.
However, they could face competition from Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan, with his representatives having left for talks with the latter. Juventus and Galatasaray also have an interest.
Rashford admitted in an impressive interview last month that he is ready for a ‘new challenge’ and spoke of leaving Old Trafford as a ‘when’, not an ‘if’.
However, any deal would depend on what proportion of his wages United are willing to pay, as well as the size of the fee if there is an obligation to buy.
The striker’s weekly wage is estimated at around £325,000.

United paid part of Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood’s earnings last season to loan them out to Dortmund and Getafe respectively.
AC Milan have made their most visible progress yet by welcoming Rashford’s brother and agent Dwaine Maynard for talks on Tuesday.
They are currently eighth in Serie A and have struggled to score goals this season.
The Italian giants’ struggles led to the departure of head coach Paulo Fonesca last month, with Sergio Conceicao taking charge.
Conceicao led AC Milan to a 3-2 victory over city rivals Inter in the Italian Super Cup on Monday, with England international Tammy Abraham scoring the stoppage-time winner.
Rashford’s former Man United teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a key figure at AC Milan, with the 43-year-old serving as a senior advisor to the club’s ownership.
United would ideally want to sell for £40 million for a man whose contract runs until 2028, with an extension in 2023.
Ruben Amorim has not played against Rashford since coming on as a substitute against Nottingham Forest on December 7, although he was back on the bench after last week’s 2-0 defeat to Newcastle.

When asked why he was dropped for the Manchester derby, Amorim said: ‘Selection. We try to evaluate everything: training, performance, game performance, involvement with the teammates, bringing out the teammates. Everything is on the line when we analyze the players and try to choose them, so that is my selection.”
Rashford has 60 caps but missed out on a place in the England squad at the European Championship and revealed he hoped to represent the Three Lions at the World Cup.
“That still fascinates me,” he said. ‘It’s playing for your country in the biggest competition in the world.
‘I’ve had the opportunity before (Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022) and it’s an incredible experience. If I get another opportunity, I will try to grab it with both hands.’
On his openness to leaving last month, Rashford said: “For me personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps.
‘If I leave, it will be ‘no hard feelings’. You won’t get any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person.
‘If I know a situation is already bad, I’m not going to make it worse. I’ve seen other players leave in the past and I don’t want to be that person. When I leave, I will make a statement, and it will be mine.”
