This new video doorbell and security camera uses AI to welcome visitors and deter intruders

As the owner of one of the best video doorbells, I’ll be the first to admit that while it’s a nice idea to be able to chat with someone through the device (for example, talk to a delivery person while I’m away), in practice I use it never. If I can’t open the door, it’s usually because I’m busy with something else. But what if my doorbell can open for me? That’s a question Swann answered with the new AI-powered doorbell and camera options he unveiled at CES 2025.
Back in October last year we talked about the SwannBuddy4K – which we gave four stars in our SwanBuddy 4K review – but now there’s the MaxRanger4K Video Doorbell. It’s a wireless doorbell that offers 24/7 Ultra HD color video, and there are no subscription fees involved (so there’s no paywall to lock you out of the most useful features).
The MaxRanger4K doorbell has a wireless range of up to 300 meters from the hub, a battery life of approximately three months per charge and 64 GB of storage space. Oh, and it can talk to visitors for you, just like the SwannBuddy.
Under the name MaxRanger, Swann also shows some non-AI security cameras. They all also offer no extra cost and 4K video day and night, but provide a wider security ring around your home. The Mini can be placed up to 300 meters from your hub with 64 GB storage, while the MaxRanger4K Max has a range of 600 meters from the hub with 64 GB storage, and the Pro model has a maximum range of 1 km from the hub and 128 GB of storage.
However, if you want to take it a step further, Swann is also debuting the Xtreem4K with SwannShield AI Defender Security Guard.
This is a wireless security camera with many of the same specs as the above models, such as a three-month rechargeable battery, day-and-night 4K color video recording, and free local recording up to 32GB. It also includes heat and motion detection, which can activate lights, sirens and recordings.
Although unlike the MaxRanger cameras above, the escalate if this occurs. believes there is a security threat.
We’ll have to test these gadgets to determine their effectiveness, but we’ve been impressed with Swann’s technology before, so we’re excited to put them through their paces when they launch in the US, UK and Australia.
