Pat Cummins struggles as he’s asked some VERY personal questions about his love life in one of cricket’s most cringe-worthy interviews
- Australian cricket captain subjected to awkward interview
- Sometimes he would squirm in front of the camera in a cringe-worthy chat
- Steve Smith and Mitchell Starc were also in the line of fire
Australian cricket captain Pat Cummins won’t soon forget his recent interview with Star Sports presenter Sahiba Bali, but for all the wrong reasons.
Cummins, 31, spoke to Bali ahead of the fifth Test against India at the SCG – and some questions were harder to face than a Jasprit Bumrah delivery.
Bali, where the popular host is Date a superstar series in her native India, made no secret of her open admiration for Cummins, who at times looked like he wanted to be somewhere else as the cringe-inducing level fell off the charts.
“Pat, I have something to tell you. I love you, but at the same time I hate you,” Ms. Bali began.
“Our entire nation feels the same way I do. It’s a love-hate relationship with him.’
Cummins, who will miss the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka as his wife Becky is about to give birth to their second child, stated that he ‘didn’t even know where to start with that’ when quizzed about his adoring female fan base, especially on the subcontinent.
He then added that he didn’t seek attention from women because he is a “goody-two-shoes” and was part of an Australian locker room made up of “family men.”
The interview with Ms Bali went ahead as Star Sports is the official broadcast partner of Indian cricket.

Ms Bali also questioned Mitchell Starc about his marriage to fellow cricketer Alyssa Healy before turning her attention to Steve Smith (pictured with wife Dani Willis)
Ms Bali wasn’t done investigating Mitchell Starc over his marriage to fellow cricketer Alyssa Healy before turning her attention to Steve Smith.
One of the ‘highlights’ saw the fearless presenter asking the champion batsman about his first girlfriend, where he would take Ms Bali on a date if he was single, and whether he would ‘like’ being married to Dani Willis are.
It didn’t take long for stunned cricket fans to abuse Ms Bali on social media.
“Absolutely cringe,” posted one supporter, speaking for many on X.
“This was super awkward,” said another, with a third adding: “I feel uncomfortable.”
The first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle starts on January 29.
Smith is just one away from a momentous personal milestone: 10,000 career Tests.
