Helen Skelton recalls VERY awkward moment she was caught on camera angrily shouting ‘It’s a disgrace!’ after missing out on BAFTA to beloved children’s entertainer
Helen Skelton recalls the very awkward moment she was caught on camera shouting: ‘It’s a shame!’ after missing out on a BAFTA for CBBC’s Mr Tumble.
The former Strictly star, 41, hosted Blue Peter in 2012 and was nominated for the Polar Challenge, which documented her 500-mile journey for Sports Relief, but was beaten by actor Justin Fletcher for best children’s presenter.
Speaking about the Cannon Hall Farm podcast Helen recalled the incident where she was convinced she would win.
‘Years ago I was a candidate as a children’s presenter at the BAFTAs and had been nominated for a few years but hadn’t won.’ This particular year my table was right at the front, right near the stage, and I thought, “I’m here.”‘
“The guy comes over to present the prize and I was like Zoolander, I was sitting out of the chair but Mr Tumble won and not me. To be honest, I didn’t react well and I think I said, ‘It’s a shame’ as the camera turned to me’.
“Now I’m a big fan of Mr Tumble, and I didn’t have any kids at the time, so I didn’t get to do the great work that he does, and it’s amazing what he does, but at the time I probably didn’t appreciate it.”

It comes after Helen revealed her life was made after she caught her son watching the show that made her famous – Blue Pete.
The presenter starred in the iconic BBC children’s show from 2008 to 2013 and during her time on the program she kayaked along the Amazon, completed the Namibian Ultra Marathon and cycled all the way to the South Pole.
And it appears she may have passed the Blue Peter bug on to her son Ernie, eight.
In a heartwarming moment shared to the star’s Instagram stores last month, Helen showed her son coloring on a large table dressed in a dinosaur onesie with an episode of the hit show playing in the background.
The Countryfile presenter wrote about the module: ‘Life made…watching Blue Peter’.
Helen then shared a video on her Instagram of an episode where Anthea Turner and Gethin Jones could be seen covered in mud.
The clip then panned to Ernie who was captivated by the show and the blonde beauty wrote on the video: ‘Let me tell you about this one-time son… Blue Peter legacy going strong.’
The adorable Instagram post comes after Helen joked that she needed a nanny for herself and not her three children, having embraced the fun side of life since she was 40.

The TV personality shares Ernie, Louis, six, and two-year-old daughter Elsie, with ex-husband Richie Myler who she split from in April 2022 and soon after the rugby league ace, 35, embarked on a new romance with Stephanie Thirkill.
The ex-Strictly star told The Sun: ‘I think we’re past calorie counting, aren’t we? It’s not fun. You get to the point where you think life is too short not to have fun.”
“I always say it’s not a child who needs a babysitter, I need a babysitter – to do all the boring stuff.”
Adding: ‘Having children is the ultimate ironman. It’s incredible, I think women need to hear that. I’ve done marathons, I’ve done ultramarathons, but the work is harder.’
In September, MailOnline announced that Richie had become a father for the second time with his new partner. The couple already shares daughter Olivia, who was born in May 2023.
Richie’s new arrival comes seven months after his divorce from the former Helen was finalized following their split two years ago.

The Morning Live presenter was married to Richie for eight years before announcing on Instagram that he had ‘left home’ just four months after the birth of their youngest child Elsie.
But apparently she took her own advice and had some time for herself. Helen announced she was taking a break from Morning Live earlier this week as she paid an emotional tribute to her co-stars.
The popular presenter became a regular on the show in January, alternating with Michelle Ackerley every Monday to Wednesday.
In recent days, Helen co-hosted the day’s program with Rav Wilding, while Gethin Jones starred in Cinderella.
On Thursday, Helen announced on Instagram that this would be her last appearance on Morning Live until 2025.
She shared several photos and videos from her time on the show, with the caption: “Lewks and lols from the past few weeks at work. Over and out 2024.”
The host also thanked Rav for an “amazing” few days, adding, “To work with ladies and gentlemen who want to do a good job and know you have to get out in time for the nursery rhyme concert is the ultimate payday.” Extremely proud of the content my colleagues create.’
‘We hope it helps you in some small way. Don’t take anything for granted.
‘Here we’re going to load up the cheese board and put it on repeat at home alone.’
She signed off the post: “Looking forward to seeing you again in 2025,” tagging both Gethin and Morning Live.
