Katie Holmes bundles up in chilly NYC as she gets back to Broadway after Christmas holiday

Katie Holmes was spotted returning to Broadway’s Our Town on Thursday after a short Christmas break.

The 46-year-old Dawson’s Creek alum made her way to the historic Barrymore Theater in New York City wearing a brown trench coat.

The makeup-free star also wore flared jeans and black loafers.

Her wavy brunette hair was tied in a bun and she kept sunglasses on as she walked.

Along with a black leather bag, Holmes carried her belongings in a colorful Hello Kitty tote.

Missing from Holmes’ outing was her 18-year-old daughter Suri Cruise, who recently returned to New York for the holidays.

The revival of Thornton Wilder’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, first performed in 1938, officially returned to Broadway in October after weeks of previews beginning September 17.

The metagame, narrated by a director, revolves around small town life in New Hampshire at the turn of the 20th century.

Amid a Spartan setting, characters break the fourth wall, travel back in time and even return from beyond the grave.

The revival features more diverse casting and includes Jim Parsons, Zoey Deutch, Ephraim Sykes, Julie Halston, Richard Thomas and Michelle Wilson.

Holmes plays Mrs. Webb, the mother of Deutsch’s main character Emily.

In an interview with Playbill, Holmes spoke about working on the show and its new approach to the universal story.

“He didn’t want this to be a play about nostalgia,” the Dawson’s Creek alum said, referring to director Kenny Leon.

“He wanted this to be a play about village life set against the stars, against humanity.”

The close-knit cast and crew of Our Town recently celebrated Holmes’ 46th birthday backstage on December 19.

And her daughter Suri – who she shares with ex-husband Tom Cruise – could be seen serenading her with a happy birthday along with the cast and crew in an Instagram Story post shared by Holmes.

The clip featured the 18-year-old Carnegie Mellon University freshman holding an old portrait photo of Robert Redford with the caption “Happy B-day Katie!”

Suri traveled all the way from Pittsburgh, PA to see the empty nester act at Our Town and give her a beautiful bouquet of purple roses.

Holmes gushed about her gift to her 2.9 million Instagram followers: “I’m so grateful for all my blessings, especially my daughter!”

Although Suri has seemingly been estranged from father Tom since his and Holmes’ divorce in 2012, the teen and her actress mother are close.

Holmes flocked there during the summer City & Country about how “proud” she is of Suri and revealed that she will miss her while she is away at college in Pennsylvania.

‘I am proud of my daughter. Of course I will miss the closeness, but I am really proud of her and I am happy,” the TV star said.

“I remember being at this age, this time of the beginning. It’s exciting to get to know yourself, and I loved that time, so it makes me happy to think about it that way.”

Although Katie has kept social media posts about Suri to a minimum, she previously celebrated her daughter on National Daughter’s Day and has spoken lovingly about the teen several times.

‘I love her so much. My biggest goal has always been to nurture her individuality,” she told InStyle in 2020.

‘To make sure she is 100 percent herself and strong, confident and capable. And to know it.’

She added that her daughter “came out very strong – she has always been a strong personality.”

“She picks an activity and works her butt off until she’s really good at it. Then she says, “Okay, I’m going to try the next thing.” She is very focused and a hard worker,” Katie added.”
