Miserable New York Jets get their first good news for the 2025 NFL season
The Jets won’t be heading to the NFL postseason next month, but they did get some positive news Tuesday amid their miserable 4-11 season.
Rookie offensive tackle Olu Fashanu injured his foot during the team’s loss to the Rams on Sunday, and interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich said the next day he would be placed on IR with only two games left this season.
And while it initially seemed like the plantar fasciitis injury would be long-term — with Ulbrich saying at a news conference that he was “reasonably confident” Fashanu would undergo surgery — the team later rescinded that.
After the press conference, the Jets told the media that Fashanu would not require surgery and that they expected a full recovery for the player. The Jets confirmed this to Mail Sport via email.
NFL Network Mike Garafolo added that Fashanu only needed a “couple of weeks” to recover.
Fashanu, the No. 11 pick in the 2024 Draft, has been a bright spot this season with just one sack allowed in 15 games, according to Pro football focus.

But the team said Monday he would not need surgery to correct the problem
Otherwise, it was a brutal year in the first (and perhaps) last year of Aaron Rodgers under center, as the defense regressed and the offense struggled to score points.
Both head coach Robert Saleh and GM Joe Douglas were fired, while offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett was demoted and stripped of his play-calling duties after Ulrbich took over.
To make matters worse, there are now trade rumors involving young star Garrett Wilson, who has suffered a lot of losses in his three seasons with the franchise.
After the Jets’ 19-9 loss to the Rams, Wilson said he didn’t know why he was targeted only three times in the first 55 minutes of the game.
“I just have to go out there and put my best foot forward and hope things come my way,” he said.
“I want to be involved, I want to make an impact on the game, but people see it differently. I have no control over that.’
The Jets close out this disappointing campaign with games against the Bills and Dolphins.
