Heartbreaking life goal young woman wanted to achieve before she was chased down a street and gunned down by two men – four years after she was rocked by a personal tragedy
The family of a woman who was shot after being chased down the street by two men say she was excited for a fresh start in the new year after a devastating personal loss.
The body of Chloe Jade Mason, 23, was discovered outside a house in Caboolture on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast shortly after midnight on Sunday.
Police believe the young woman, known to her loved ones as CeeJay, was shot while “being attacked by two male individuals.”
The murder weapon has yet to be recovered and the two unknown men are still on the run. Detectives believe both men were known to Ms Mason.
Ms Mason’s family said on Monday that the 23-year-old had been setting goals and was looking forward to starting a new job before she was shot dead.
Her death comes four years after her former partner, 18-year-old Kane Alexanderson, was stabbed to death Australia day in 2020 in a gang fight.
Ms Mason had an on-off relationship with Mr Alexanderson for several years after the pair first met when she was 14 years old.
‘They just loved each other. They were beautiful,” Mr Alexanderson’s mother, Bianca, told the Courier Mail.
Police believe Ms Mason, also known as CeeJay, was shot while “being attacked by two male subjects” who gave chase after spotting her on a suburban road on the Sunshine Coast.
Ms Mason’s sister Dani (left) said her sister had turned her life around and had plans to ‘get fit’ after suffering a devastating personal loss in 2020
“They had an on-and-off relationship until the day he died.”
Daily Mail Australia also exclusively revealed this week that Ms Mason faced a series of charges in Brisbane magistrates and supreme courts before her death.
She was previously sentenced to 18 months in prison after being convicted of supplying drugs.
A close friend took to social media to pay tribute to her ‘prison sister’, recalling how they communicated through prison air vents during evening lockdowns.
But Mrs Mason’s sister Dani said the new year would be a fresh start.
‘She got fit the last conversation we had, she bought foot boots. “She was the most amazing person you could ever meet, like she was someone you wish you had by your side in your life,” she said.
‘She didn’t deserve this, no one deserves this.
‘How do you get shot in the street and no one sees anything and no one says anything, in the middle of the street. It doesn’t make sense to me.’

Her family has since had a GoFundMe page titled “Justice for Chloe,” which has raised $9,000 to date.
They had no savings or financial resources to give Mrs. Mason a funeral, her sister Hannah McKone wrote.
‘We kindly ask for help and support. All money donated will go directly towards Chloe’s funeral service.’
