Bucks party rapist is bashed in prison after being jailed over ‘heinous’ sexual assault of three teenage girls at a Newcastle Airbnb

A man convicted of the ‘horrific’ gang rape of three teenagers at a money party in Newcastle has reportedly been beaten by an inmate in prison.

Marius Hawell, 23, was sentenced last month to nine years in prison for the gang rape of three women during his brother’s money party in February 2022.

The inmate was attacked in prison in August this year, according to a psychological report filed on behalf of his older brother, 30-year-old Maurice Hawell.

“I heard last week that my brother (Marius) was beaten and his nose was broken,” Maurice Hawell told a psychologist in a report presented during the criminal proceedings and obtained by news.com.au.

“The people who hit him said I would be next.”

A prison insider told the publication that Marius “was beaten by another inmate in an accommodation wing” of the facility.

The 23-year-old was treated by medical staff at the scene and did not require hospital treatment. No one was charged in connection with the incident.

Marius’ older brother and groom Maurice was sentenced to 14 years and his groom Andrew David, 30, was sentenced to 13 years for sexual assault described by the judge as ‘humiliating and gruesome’.

Three women told a trial in the NSW District Court in June that they were invited to an Airbnb by the two Hawell brothers, where David and others were staying before they were attacked.

The incidents took place over two nights the friends from Sydney stayed in Newcastle, with a jury finding two women were raped on the first night and another on the second.

Two 18-year-olds, who met Maurice the first night at the Cambridge Hotel, went back to the Airbnb rented for his bachelor party and were sexually assaulted by multiple men in a dark bedroom.

A 19-year-old woman invited to the Airbnb on the second night was led into a bedroom and raped by two men, and believed a third entered the room to watch.

A few weeks later, in April 2022, the two brothers Hawell and David were pictured at the stunning wedding while Maurice tied the knot with his cousin Loubna Yousif.

The groom was arrested and charged the following month, while Marius and David were arrested in June 2022.

Judge O’Rourke said the behavior of the Hawells and David was ‘in stark contrast to how their mothers, wives, girlfriends and sisters have described them’.

“They are three highly educated, intelligent, successful, professional young men who come from loving Christian homes and who treat their own sisters, mothers and female partners with respect and love,” she said.

“And yet this weekend they were able to use a pack mentality to treat three young women in this cold, insensitive, demeaning and criminal manner.”

Judge O’Rourke said one of the women, all teenagers at the time, was treated as “an object… and not as a young female person who deserved to be treated with dignity.”

The three men all maintained their innocence, with Maurice and David insisting it was consensual, while Marius denied having any sex.

They were convicted by a jury of multiple charges of aggravated sexual assault in company, aggravated sexual touching in company and attempted sexual assault in company.

The judge imposed a minimum sentence of five years and five months on Marius, meaning he will be eligible for parole in December 2029.
