Hyundai recalls Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 vehicles over fears fault could cause an accident
Hyundai has recalled thousands of models of popular electric vehicles due to a major defect that could cause the car to lose power and lead to an accident.
The carmaker recalled 3,566 types of Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 EVs on Friday.
“Due to a software issue in the Integrated Charging Control Unit, the auxiliary 12-volt battery may not charge as intended,” the recall notice read.
‘A loss of motive power while driving can increase the risk of an accident resulting in injury or death for vehicle occupants and/or other road users.’
The problem can result in battery drain and also loss of motive power. The vehicles affected by the issue were built between 2021 and 2024.
Customers who own one of the affected vehicles are urged to contact their local Hyundai dealer to have the software updated.
The update is provided free of charge.

The latest recall comes after Hyundai recalled 3,521 vehicles of both models in April.
The two EV models are the South Korean manufacturer’s flagship electric vehicles.
The Ioniq 5 was released in 2021, while the Ioniq 6 model was released in July 2022.
Hyundai announced in 2020 that the automaker would introduce three new dedicated EV models under the Ioniq brand over the next four years.
The fleet consists of EVs powered by batteries and the cars offer a spacious interior and can be charged super-fast.
