Tom Hanks, 68, insisted he’s in ‘better shape now than 30 years ago’ just weeks before sparking concern with shaking hands during SNL appearance

Tom Hanks previously revealed he is ‘in better shape now than he was 30 years ago’, just weeks before raising concerns about his shaking hands.

The legendary actor, 68, had fans concerned about his health over the weekend on Saturday evening live when they noticed the Forest Gump icon’s shaking hands.

One fan commented under a promotional post on SNL’s official Instagram account, “Is Tom Hanks’ hand shaking?” while another joined the thread, adding, “I noticed it too!!! And now I’m worried.’

But a few weeks earlier, the actor insisted that he feels as good now, if not better, than he did in his 30s, when he explained the negative side effects he suffered at age 35 during an interview with Entertainment tonight in November.

While promoting his new film Here, he said: ‘Look, I’m 68 years old, the hardest thing for us was when we were playing 35.

“That’s when your metabolism shuts down, gravity starts to break you down, your bones start to wear down, you stand differently — I think I’m in better shape now,” he admitted.

When told he looked “good,” the actor said, “You know why? Since my children are grown, I get decent exercise and can eat well. You can’t do that anymore when you’re 35. Life is such a burden!’

Meanwhile, Tom also told me People on his role: ‘It’s good to look young again… it’s not great to be young again.’

According to an official description, Here follows the story of “multiple generations of couples and families living in the same house over the course of a century.”

In a creative mix of traditional makeup effects and digital de-aging, both Hanks and co-star Robin Wright transition seamlessly between their teenage selves and their 80-year-old counterparts throughout the film’s extended timeline.

About the film’s special effects, he added, “That was kind of a gimmick, because you could do that with regular makeup if you wanted to.” But because we have another high-speed filter computer that’s done on site, we don’t have to wait for the post-production process to review the footage. [what we looked like after being de-aged].’

He continued, “Look, I’m 68. The much harder part that has been emotional both physically and spiritually is when Richard and Margaret are 35 and 42 – when the aging process is just starting to kick in and you are no longer able to jump up from a bench. And you’re not yet at a place where life completely slows down.”

The movie star then insisted that he would “rather be my age.”

Tom’s recent concerns came as he did appeared to support SNL host Martin Short, along with a slew of guest stars including Scarlett Johansson, Paul Rudd and John Mulaney.

This isn’t the first time fans have been concerned about the Hollywood leading man’s shaking hands.

In June 2022, the beloved actor’s tremors prompted a doctor to tell DailyMail.com that it could be an early sign of Parkinson’s.

Hanks appeared unable to control his shaking right hand as he held a microphone and spoke while promoting Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis film.

Hanks tried to control the shaking by placing his left hand at the bottom of the microphone, below his right hand. He also briefly switched hands.

Dr. Stuart Fischer, a Yale University graduate with four years of experience in emergency medicine who is now medical director of two New York City nursing homes, said the Australian images suggested the degenerative disease.

“Parkinson’s disease would be at the forefront of most doctors’ minds,” he told DailyMail.com after viewing the footage.

‘This shaking hand may be an early sign of the disease.

“You’d think he’d be on his way to a neurologist’s office by now, if he wasn’t already.

‘It may take weeks, months or years for it to progress. It could be like the famous conductor James Levine: it took many years for a leg tremor to develop into a physical manifestation.’

He said the shaking could be tremors, but given Hanks’ age, this was unlikely.

‘The other condition it could be is an essential tremor, but this tends to occur at a younger age – although it can be worsened by anxiety and stress,’ he said. “It usually affects people in their 20s and 30s.”

When asked if it could be related to Hanks’ diabetes, he said, “Not related to type 2 diabetes. I’ve never heard of that.”

He also ruled out that it was related to Hanks previously having COVID.
