Footy star Braith Anasta linked to shock appearance in sequel to Adam Sandler classic Happy Gilmore

  • The comedy sequel will feature a host of big-name cameos
  • The betting market is determined based on who will appear
  • Golfer turned NRL star Braith Anasta has made the list

Could NRL champion Braith Anasta be ready for a big screen cameo in the sequel to Adam Sandler hit film Happy Gilmore?

While Anasta is better known for his football career, he is also a talented golfer and has now been linked to an appearance in the highly anticipated Happy Gilmore 2 with Sandler in the title role.

Happy Gilmore is a classic 1996 sports comedy starring Adam Sandler as a failed hockey player who discovers a talent for golf.

Directed by Dennis Dugan, the film combines slapstick humor with an underdog story, making it a fan favorite.

It grossed approximately $41.2 million worldwide on a modest budget of $12 million, cementing its status as a box office success.

Best known as an NRL star and host of Fox Sports show NRL 360, Anasta almost pursued a professional golf career before returning to rugby league in 1998.

At the age of 15, Anasta shifted his focus entirely to golf, competing against future tour players such as James Nitties and Aron Price.

He narrowly missed out on victory in a Jack Newton Junior Golf event at Bondi Golf Club, but was recalled to rugby league mid-season, leading the South Sydney SG Ball team to a grand final victory.

Anasta’s passion for golf remains strong; he competed in the 2011 NSW PGA Championship and now supports emerging golfers through his sports management company Searoo Sports.

Now that the hype surrounding Happy Gilmore 2 is strong, there has been a lot of talk on the internet about which celebrities will be getting cameos.

Retired golf superstar Jack Nichlaus, rapper and singer Bad Bunny, NFL star Travis Kelce and actor Margaret Qualley have been confirmed to play small roles in the sequel.

Veteran actor and golf enthusiast Bill Murray is the discounted favorite at $1.25 to appear, followed by NFL star Jason Kelce, former Dallas Cowboys star Tony Romo, Seinfeld co-creator Larry David and comedian and actor Jason Bateman.

Additionally, Justin Timberlake, Mark Wahlberg, Snoop Dogg, Matthew McConaughey and comedian Andrew Santino are all strongly tipped to land cameo roles as well.

But as you go further down the list, things get interesting. At 21-1 you will find former Australian Test skipper and keen golfer Ricky Ponting. And at number 34-1 you will find Anasta.

Sandler has confirmed that there will be a host of big-name cameos in the film, but is remaining tight-lipped about who they are.

“We have a lot of good things, and we want to make sure it all comes together,” Sandler said.

“We’re definitely nervous, but we feel a kind of confidence.”
