Prince William releases behind-the-scenes footage of his light-hearted darts match with Hannah Waddingham

Prince William has released behind-the-scenes footage of his recent darts match against Hannah Waddingham.

The unlikely duo filmed the nine-minute sketch at Alexandra Palace in north London to promote the royal family’s new environmental documentary, The Earthshot Report, which aired on BBC1 on December 14.

The clip, posted to the Prince and Princess of Wales’

“Welcome to the world-famous Alexandra Palace,” Hannah said to the prince. “What a beautiful palace this is,” he replied.

Dressed in plastic-free trainers from British brand HEVEA and a casual blue jumper, William appeared relaxed as he wandered the halls of the palace with Hannah.

“It actually feels strange to be here again,” the Prince of Wales said.

“How many years ago was it?” the actress asked, referring to the awards ceremony. “Four,” William replied.

As he takes a pint of cider from the bar, the Prince’s tone changes as he speaks about the environmental organization he founded in 2020.

“Future change that we want needs to happen very quickly now and so this decade of change is where the Earthshot Prize kind of comes into play,” he said.

The never-before-seen footage was released days after a gushing Hannah described Prince William as a “glorious gentleman” and the “beating heart” of the Earthshot Prize.

The actress described their meeting at the Earthshot Prize Awards in Singapore last year as “absolutely exciting” and shared a clip of her conversation with the heir apparent.

In an interview with Parade magazineHannah revealed that she and her co-host Sterling K. Brown approached the Prince of Wales at the awards and told him he was ‘a cut above the rest’.

Explaining her reasoning, she said, “He founded the Earthshot organization and he is not a poster boy for it.

“It was very clear that he is the beating heart and that he really cares.”

She continues: ‘That man has a heart for the environment and I was very proud that I could be a kind of figurehead for his organization.’

And according to body language expert Judi James, William was as in awe of his girlfriend Hannah as she was of him.

Speaking to FEMAIL, Judi told how William displayed ‘sweet gestures’, which was a sign of a genuine friendship between the pair.

Judi said: ‘It’s quite sweet to see William completely overwhelmed in his performance here by the assertive, statuesque and funny Hannah Waddingham, who reduces him to a state of sniggering fan.

‘William’s famous competitive qualities are on display early on when he holds the darts like a pro and waves them as he talks to Hannah in a confident gesture that implies, “Look at this!”‘

He throws the dart as she speaks, and his tight-lipped expression suggests intent and focus on getting a rose.

“There’s a little moment where there’s a hint from William’s body language that he might just start blaming and acting like the arrow has been shot home for the video.

“But if Hannah joins in, he’ll have no choice but to let out an embarrassed sigh when it turns out it’s on the floor.”

During the friendly, Prince William revealed that he constantly talks to his children about the environment and says it is a priority to get them outside to play in nature.

During a chat with William, Hannah asked him about his ‘three little people’ and he revealed the importance of getting Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, into nature.

William said: “I talk to my children about it all the time and it’s important for them to see, touch, feel and get out into nature.

‘It’s very difficult for people to understand the point of protecting it if you never use it, and it’s very important that we get people out into nature because then they will appreciate it.

‘We cannot take for granted what we have, we must protect it and care for it, we must think about it in a way that is sustainable and useful to us all.’
