£870m Taylor Swift…and her £58 Scots dress

  • Boost for fashion label after sports boutique outfit of American billionaire

As a global fashion icon, Taylor Swift has millions of fans eager to emulate her style.

Now the 34-year-old American singer-songwriter has caused a sales frenzy at a small Scottish fashion label after he was photographed wearing one of the dresses.

She wore the olive green Sweet Jane mini dress from Perthshire online boutique Little Lies for a night out in New York – and it sold out the next morning.

Yesterday, business owner Jade Robertson said the £58 dress was bought online and shipped to the US, but staff were unaware it was destined to be worn by the star.

They were thrilled when they saw a photo on social media of the Shake It Off singer – who is reportedly worth £870 million – wearing the crushed velvet dress after dinner on Wednesday with actresses Blake Lively, 36, and Zoe Kravitz , 35.

Mrs Robertson, who set up Little Lies with her husband Stuart from a bedroom in their home in 2015, said: “It’s super exciting.

‘You really can’t buy this kind of PR.

‘Taylor Swift surpasses celebrity. These are things that can change the trajectory of an independent company like ours.

“When we woke up and got the image, we had already sold out of the dress.

“We didn’t know it was her, but we did some research and found out it’s definitely the same dress.”

“This is the kind of situation that is unprecedented and has never happened to us before.”

The Little Lies label started as an online boutique, but the Robertsons started creating their own designs in-house last year, specializing in styles with “bohemian irreverence.”

They are against ‘fast fashion’ and only about 200 garments are made in each style.

The green Sweet Jane dress, which went on sale in August, can be pre-ordered in sizes 8 to 24, but Ms Robertson added: ‘We’re not going to make thousands. We want it to be a unique style.”
