Norman Park, Brisbane: Six rushed to hospital after guests are exposed to ‘toxic substance’ at 80th birthday party

Nearly a dozen guests became seriously ill with gastro symptoms, six of whom were rushed to hospital after being exposed to a ‘toxic substance’ at an 80th birthday party.

As many as 64 guests arrived at the party on Hope Street in Norman Park, Brisbane, at 3.30pm on Sunday.

Emergency services were immediately called after several guests began experiencing stomach complaints, including fatigue, dizziness and nausea.

Ten guests were observed on site by paramedics before six guests were taken to the Mater, Princess Alexandra or QEII hospitals.

About a dozen people fell and several guests were rushed to hospital after consuming a mystery substance at a house party in Brisbane on Sunday afternoon.

Emergency services were later called to another home in Shorncliffe at midnight after receiving reports that a woman was experiencing similar symptoms.

She was taken to Princess Charles Hospital in a stable condition.

Queensland police said the guests fell ill after consuming a ‘mystery’ substance.

“A large number of these people were affected by a substance, the nature of that substance is unknown at this stage,” Detective Inspector Daniel Bragg said. 7 News.

Police have ruled out food poisoning as the likely cause of the incident.

Emergency services called to the scene were warned that guests may have been exposed to pest control work carried out at the property before the party was held.

A chemical warfare team was called to the house and conducted tests but found no toxic substances.
