8 tips and tricks to know before starting Lego Fortnite

Fortnite now has its own survival crafting game mode, Lego Fortnite. There's a lot to do in the game, but it can be difficult to know where to start.

Whether you're just trying to build a beautiful village or take on big baddies, coming into the world for the first time can be extremely overwhelming. It can be difficult to dive into a fresh new survival game, but we've got you covered.

Below we list some tips and tricks that we wish we had known before we started Lego Fortnite and beautifying our villages.

Trees grow back, but big rocks don't

There will be plenty of lumber, but your methods of grabbing granite from larger rocks will be limited. In our playthroughs, the large granite deposits have never been respawned, even though the trees around it did. With that in mind, plan accordingly!

Adventure with NPCs for more protection

Adding NPCs to your village allows them to adventure with you. When they are given tools and weapons, the NPC will fight for you against bad guys and help you collect materials. The latter is useful, especially if you are playing in caves.

Plan your buildings carefully because you cannot move them

Unfortunately, you can't pick up and move buildings, machines, furniture, or anything else you build. If you want to move things, you will have to tear it down and rebuild it. Not all hope is lost, as you will recoup the cost of the materials if you break things down, but it is a pain in the ass.

Properly placing foundations is the key to creating cool structures

You learn this as you create buildings from blueprints, but the secret to building good structures is: be flexible with your foundations. Don't just place the largest square foundation and start building on it. You'll need to add smaller pieces of foundation around those larger squares to properly fit walls, corners, and pillars into your structures.

Always pack more than you need

As you build, you must continually edit materials: wood, granite, marbleetc. It's a pain to have to go back and forth between caves and your village, so make sure you grab everything you can before heading back at your leisure.

Do not process all your materials

After you grow tons of wood and such, don't put it all into processing machines (such as a sawmill or stonemason). You need the processed version of these materials, like the planks you get from wood, but often you still need the raw material too, so don't get overzealous.

Keep building more things

To take your village to the next level, you'll have to keep building things. Improve the original huts you've built, build a beautifully decorated home for your villagers, or simply test your design skills by putting together a log cabin. By doing this you will improve your village in no time.

Keep wood with you for makeshift stairs

You never know when it is needed build a staircase to reach items in no time. There's nothing more horrifying than going into a cave to carve some marble and then realizing you can't reach it and you have nothing to build stairs with. Oops! You only need two pieces of wood to build one staircase.
