7 people shot, 1 fatally, at a park in upstate Rochester, NY
ROCHESTER, NY — One person was killed and at least six others were injured in a mass shooting Sunday at a park in upstate New York.
Rochester police said they responded to a large gathering in Maplewood Park at around 6:20 p.m. where shots were fired. They found several people with gunshot wounds.
An adult in his 20s was killed, another person suffered life-threatening injuries and five people were taken to hospital with minor injuries, Capt. Greg Bello said.
The identity of the fatally shot victim has not yet been released until family is notified, Bello said.
Several law enforcement agencies responded to the park, including the Irondequoit Police, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Rochester Police and New York State Police. Rochester police confirmed that there was a party going on in the area at the time of the shooting.
“At this point we don’t know how many people were shooting,” Bello said. “We’re trying to get as many witnesses as we can.”
No suspects have been arrested, police said.
Police are asking anyone with video footage of the shooting to send it to Major Crimes or contact Crime Stoppers. Anyone can also call 311 or 911 if they have information.
Rochester is located approximately 347 miles (547 km) northwest of Manhattan.
