October has already brought several major streaming releases to the forefront – Beckham, The Fall of the House of Usher And Loki season 2 to name a few – but this weekend we’ll see Netflix and Prime Video tone down the hype in favor of some more subdued productions.
The biggest arrival is Bodies on Netflix, a Stephen Graham-led detective adventure with a time-traveling twist The burning girls And If you were the last highlight this week’s biggest additions to Paramount Plus and Peacock, respectively.
Below are our picks of the best new movies and TV shows to stream this weekend on Netflix, Prime Video, Max and more.
Bodies (Netflix)
In case you hadn’t heard, Netflix is on the rise. Launches from David Beckham and Edgar Allen Poe have given ratings a nice boost in October, and the streamer hopes so Bodies – the latest thriller series – builds on that success.
This Paul Tomalin-directed mystery is an eight-part adaptation of Si Spencer’s graphic novel and has an apt tagline: “Four detectives. Four timelines. A body.” Essentially, it follows four London detectives, spread across four different time periods, as they investigate a murder involving the same victim (yes, you read that right: the same victim).
Stephen Graham and Kyle Soller are among the show’s cast Bodies is praised by critics for being ‘a tense police drama that leaves you wanting more’. In other words, this could be one of them best Netflix shows from 2023.

The Burning Girls (Paramount Plus)
It’s been a while since the last good show about a remote community with a terrible secret, but The burning girls has arrived on Paramount Plus to rectify that situation.
This six-episode adaptation of CJ Tudor’s novel stars Samantha Morton (Minority report) as a well-meaning pastor who, after moving to the countryside in hopes of a fresh start, discovers that her new village neighbors are not what they seem.
Ruby Stokes, Jack Roth and Conrad Khan also star The burning girls, which critics have described as “everything you could want from a pre-Halloween fright-fest.” All episodes are now available to stream.

Bosch: Legacy Season 2 (Amazon Freevee)
Attention, fathers everywhere: Bosch: Legacy season 2 now streaming (free) on Amazon Freevee.
This spin-off of the excellent seven-season Prime Video Bosch The series continues with Titus Welliver’s Harry Bosch resuming his search for his missing daughter Maddie. This time, however, both Bosch and his partner Chandler are pursued by the FBI (classic!).
The first four episodes of Bosch: Legacy season 2 are now available to stream on Amazon Freevee, with the remaining six episodes releasing in pairs every Friday through November 10.

If you were the last (Peacock)
After debuting to positive reviews at the SXSW festival in March, new sci-fi rom-com If you were the last finally lands on Peacock this weekend.
In this feature debut by Kristian Mercado, Anthony Mackie and Zoë Chao play Adam and Jane, two astronauts who, after being stranded on an abandoned spaceship, must decide whether their friendship should become something more.
Sure, that premise sounds familiar, but critics are praising it nonetheless If you were the last for its neat interstellar twist and two charismatic leads. Could this be the film that finally helps Peacock competes with Netflix? Watch this space.

Upload Season 3 (Prime Video)
Prime Video’s unusual, inventive and deeply underrated comedy series, uploadcontinues its third season this weekend.
In new episodes, the show’s protagonist, Nathan, struggles with the reality of being back in reality, after Season 2 concluded with the character successfully returning to the land of the living. But how will Nathan fare in the same dimension as his old love interest, Nora? If upload The season 3 trailer is everything we could expect, the answer is: not good.

The Pigeon Tunnel (Apple TV Plus)
The first of this week’s two documentary choices is The Pigeon Tunnel on Apple TV Plus.
This feature-length production from acclaimed documentary filmmaker Errol Morris chronicles the life and career of former British spy David Cornwell, who later became better known as spy novelist John le Carré.
Based on Le Carré’s own best-selling memoir of the same name, The Pigeon Tunnel spanning six decades and including the last interview the author gave before his death in 2020, this interview is essential for John le Carré fans.

Navajo Police: Class 57 (max)
Recent films about Native American culture have focused on the problematic relationship between Native Americans and the U.S. government Navajo Police: Class 57 – which is now streaming in its entirety on Max – offers a different perspective.
This three-part production provides unprecedented insight into the Navajo Nation’s police academy, focusing specifically on the journey of several young cadets as they develop from wide-eyed trainees to full-fledged reservation officers.
Critics have not yet had a chance to comment on this Navajo Police: Class 57 not yet, but the documentary’s truly unique subject matter should be enough to make it worth watching.
