The Cunning Evader (Hulu)
December is known for foregrounding the (very different) work of Mariah Carey and Charles Dickens, but the A Christmas carol The classic has been taken over this year by a much fresher Dickensian story: The artistic dodger.
This eight-episode (unofficial) episode is set in 1850s Australia Oliver Twist sequel focuses on the later years of pickpocket surgeon Jack Dawkins, aka the Artful Dodger (played here by Thomas Brodie-Sangster). David Thewlis also stars as Fagin, who leads the series' titular antihero back to a life of crime.
Critics have described The artistic dodger as 'light-hearted' and 'a really good time', so it might be one of the best best Hulu shows of the year. UK viewers will have to wait for the series' debut on Disney Plus early next year.

Nothing says Oscar season more than a Natalie Portman/Julianne Moore two-hander, and May December has arrived on Netflix in the US and Sky Cinema in the UK to stake its claim as a 2024 award nominee.
This Todd Haynes-directed drama focuses on Gracie (Julianne Moore), a happily married woman whose controversial past with her much younger husband, Joe (Charles Melton), comes back to haunt her when a Hollywood actress (Natalie Portman) begins to investigate. to the couple. for a movie role.

Apple TV Plus's top-rated spy satire, Slow horsesreturns this weekend for its six-episode third season.
This latest entry is adapted from the third novel in Mick Herron's Slough House series, Real tigers, and begins with a Bond-esque chase through the streets of Istanbul. Things quickly go wrong and Lamb (Gary Oldman), River (Jack Lowden), Standish (Saskia Reeves) and Diana (Kristin Scott Thomas) are once again drawn into a global conspiracy.
The first two episodes of Slow horses Season 3 – described by critics as “polished” and “better than ever” – is now available to stream on Apple TV Plus. The remaining four episodes of the show will be released weekly every Wednesday through December 27.

The Bad Guys: A Very Bad Holiday (Netflix)
The second of this week's holiday-themed recommendations is The Bad Guys: A Very Bad Holidaywhich is now streaming on Netflix.
In this 23-minute prequel to the 2022 DreamWorks feature film, the titular Bad Guys – that's Mr. Wolf, Mr. Snake, Ms. Tarantula, Mr. Shark and Mr. Piranha – forced to revive the holiday spirit after they ruin the town's annual Santa Claus parade.

Family Switch (Netflix)
Body-swap comedies are nothing new, but from 2003 Crazy Friday had a mother-daughter switch, and Big saw Tom Hanks' Josh inhabiting the body of his future self, Netflix's Family switch goes one step further than both films.
Starring Ed Helms and Jennifer Garner new Netflix movie – an adaptation of the 2010 children's book Bedtime for mom – is about a technology-obsessed husband and wife who involuntarily switch places with their two children after an astrological reader points out the error of their ways.
Suffice it to say, Family switch has received a lukewarm reception from critics, but it will undoubtedly provide a light-hearted delight for anyone looking to switch off their brain for 90 minutes.

Bookmaker (Max)
Charlie Sheen stars in Chuck Lorre's latest comedy series, Bookmakerwhich starts streaming on Max this weekend.
This eight-part production centers on Danny (Sebastian Maniscalco), a charismatic bookmaker struggling with the impending legalization of sports gambling, and his increasingly unstable clients, family and colleagues.
The first two episodes of Bookmaker are now available to stream on Max. The remaining six episodes of the show will be released in pairs every Thursday through December 21.
