6.3 magnitude earthquake hits Hawaii – residents describe ‘huge’ tremors and shaking buildings

A magnitude 6.3 earthquake has struck close to Hawaii, rocking buildings and causing massive tremors on the island of Oahu, officials say.

The earthquake struck at a depth of more than six miles, about six miles southeast of Naalehu, although the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said no tsunami is expected.

It is unclear whether the earthquake resulted in deaths or injuries.

The Tsunami Bureau cataloged the intensity of the natural disaster as VI – meaning it is significant but not expected to cause catastrophic damage.

This is a developing story and will be updated as information is confirmed.
