The Fourth of July sales and Amazon Prime Day coincide as two excellent opportunities to grab a midsummer bargain. Generally speaking, both offer great deals, and we cover them all the time here at Ny Breaking. You may be wondering what the differences are, and what you should buy at each event.

The main differences explained
The 4th of July sales are a “traditional” sales event
The 4th of July sale is what I would call a “traditional” sales event – one where the deals are shared between online retailers and brick-and-mortar stores. Generally speaking, it’s a fairly similar format to other federal holiday sales like Memorial Day and Labor Day, which are other seasonal sales that often feature similar types of deals.
Amazon Prime Day, on the other hand, is an exclusive online mega sale at the world’s largest retailer. It’s a two-day event specifically about Amazon and you must be an active Amazon Prime member to access the exclusive deals on offer.
It’s worth noting that in recent years, other retailers have started trying to get in on the action by offering their own “anti-Prime Day” sales around the Amazon Prime Day period. Overall, Prime Day in July has become something of a mini Black Friday event, although the content may not yet be as extensive.
What to buy at each event

I would especially recommend the 4th of July sales for appliances, furniture, grills, mattresses, and so on — you know, the kind of stuff you’d buy at an outlet store. There are plenty of other deals (more on that later), but generally speaking, these core categories are the best buys for the 4th of July and other seasonal sales.
Amazon Prime Day, on the other hand, is where I’d recommend going for electronics. TVs, laptops, headphones and the like. While the retailer’s huge stock covers a wide range of everyday essentials, it’s usually the deals on electronics that we recommend people check out here at Ny Breaking – particularly on own-brand devices like Echo Dots, Kindle or Fire TV Sticks. We usually find Black Friday deals on models we’ve personally tested and reviewed in person, so it’s easy to recommend waiting until Prime Day to buy electronics.
However, it’s not that simple
Yes – unfortunately not. While Amazon Prime Day remains the main midsummer sales event, the 4th of July sales can sometimes include some fantastic hidden gems. It’s not unusual to see significant price cuts on TVs, laptops and other electronics at retailers like Dell, HP, Best Buy and others earlier this month.
For example, the official HP Store is currently running its own 4th of July sale with up to 55% off its range of Pavilion, Envy, and Spectre laptops – one of the better events we’ve seen from the retailer in recent months. Dell is also running a “Summer Sale” at the moment with some decent price cuts , though we may see an even better “Black Friday in July” sale at some point based on what’s been going on in recent years.
That’s why it’s definitely worth at least checking out the July 4th sale, even if you’re shopping for electronics. Overall, we expect Amazon Prime Day to have better deals overall, but there may be a few hidden gems here and there – which we’ll obviously include in our 4th of July sales roundup.
