49ers star Deebo Samuel hospitalized with pneumonia and ‘fluid in his lungs’

The bad news continues for the San Francisco 49ers, as star wide receiver Deebo Samuel is currently in the hospital with pneumonia and “fluid in his lungs,” according to team head coach Kyle Shanahan.

Samuel played against the Kansas City Chiefs in a Super Bowl rematch on Sunday due to an illness.

Now his condition has deteriorated as there is no timetable for his return, Shanahan said.

Samuel is one half of one of the best wide receiver tandems in the NFL alongside Brandon Aiyuk.

Now San Francisco will be without both wide receivers, as Aiyuk tore his ACL on Sunday and will not return this season.

Samuel spent his entire professional career with the 49ers after a stellar college run at South Carolina.

The 28-year-old has played a unique role in the NFL with his strong presence receiving and controlling the ball.

The 49ers entered the season as one of the NFC’s favorites to return to the Super Bowl.

Seven weeks into the NFL season, several teams appear better positioned to make a playoff run than the defending NFC champions, who are at 3-4.

The Packers, Lions, Vikings and Commanders have all looked dominant this season in ways that the 49ers have not.

San Francisco faces another tough test Sunday night, facing an old rival in the Dallas Cowboys.
