49ers’ injury nightmare continues as Brock Purdy suffers fitness problem in Rams defeat – while Christian McCaffrey jets to Germany to see specialist

A series of injuries has turned adversity into a nightmare for the San Francisco 49ers, and concerns about several starters have given them hope for a positive turnaround.

That doesn’t apply to Niners quarterback Brock Purdy, who is reportedly having back problems.

Niners coach Kyle Shanahan announced the news Monday after San Francisco lost 27-24 to division rivals Los Angeles Rams on Sunday afternoon.

The injury did not force Purdy to sit out the game, as he completed 22 of 30 passes for 292 yards and three touchdowns while rushing 10 times for 41 yards in the narrow loss.

He did so without his best running back, his best tight end and one of his best wide receivers — all of whom missed Sunday’s game.

Running back Christian McCaffrey is out long-term due to a still inflamed Achilles tendon.

According to Shanahan, McCaffrey is visiting a specialist in Germany who can help him with the injury. Photos of the running back reportedly appear on social media waiting for a flight to Munich.

But McCaffrey wasn’t the only one who missed time against the Rams.

Tight end George Kittle was out yesterday with a hamstring injury, but it is unclear how long he will be out.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, wide receiver Deebo Samuel also missed time with a calf injury after missing practice all week. He’s expected to be out for “a couple of weeks.”

Instead of Kittle and Samuel, wideout Jauan Jennings had a huge day for the Niners, making 11 catches for 175 yards and three touchdowns.

WR Deebo Samuel (L) and TE George Kittle (R) are also injured on the offensive side of the ball.

Things aren’t much better on the defensive end for the Niners either – with top pass rusher Javon Hargrave potentially missing the rest of the season with a torn triceps, according to Adam Schefter.

Hargrave made three total tackles – including a sack – in the game against the Rams.

San Francisco hopes to turn the tide with a home game on Sunday against the struggling New England Patriots.
