$300,000 worth of Magic: The Gathering cards were stolen at this weekend’s Gen Con
Indianapolis police are appealing to the public for help in identifying two thieves who made off with $300,000 in trading cards, including Magic: The Gathering packs, at this weekend’s Gen Con.
IMPD detectives have released photos of the two suspects, who reportedly made off with a pallet of trading cards on August 2, the day before the show opened to the public.
According to the police report, the robbers were equipped with a pallet truck and appeared to have walked out with the pallet of cards in the middle of the day.
Ravenburger – launched Disney Lorcana trading card game at the event over the weekend – fans were quick to reassure that the theft had not compromised stocks of the highly anticipated cards.

“On Wednesday, August 2, 2023, in downtown Indianapolis. It is reported that those of interest purchased a pallet truck, removed a pallet of game cards and moved it to an unknown location,” police said (thanks, Dice breaker).
“The alleged theft occurred before the opening of downtown events and while vendors were setting up their displays at various times.”
Perhaps the thieves are hoping for luck, just like the Canadian Brook Trafton, who sold his unique copy Lord of the Rings Magic: The Gathering card to musician Post Malone for a whopping $2 million.
