OLD SAYBROOK, Connecticut — Three people are missing without life jackets after the boat they were in crashed into a dock Monday, authorities in Connecticut said.
There was a major marine incident in progress in Old Saybrook, the North Madison Volunteer Fire Company reported on Facebook. They called the accident a “mass casualty incident,” which is described as an incident in which emergency medical services, such as personnel and equipment, are overwhelmed by the number and severity of casualties.
According to local media, there were eight to nine people on the boat.
The Guilford dive team was on the scene, as were boats, crews and ambulances from surrounding towns, the fire department said. The Coast Guard and LifeStar, an air ambulance, had helicopters on the scene to assist in the search.
Old Saybrook is located approximately 30 miles east of New Haven.
